Hi all. Looking through the Group Builds, that could be happening in 2024, I noticed that there doesn't currently appear to be, an AFV Single Type GB proposal. I mentioned this to Craig @modelling minion, who suggested the Stuart as a possible candidate for a STGB. In his words "it is well known, was used by lots of countries and came in a wide range of varieties".

I'm going to suggest this as the M3/M5 Stuart Single Type GB, as long as @Enzo the Magnificent is okay with having the M3 and M5 Stuarts counting as a suitable 'single type'. - Enzo has let us know, below, that we are okay to have this as an M3/M5 Stuart STGB!

I have to admit I am not knowledgeable about this tank at all, so will be happily guided by anyone with more knowledge than me!

Some information can be found here: https://tanks-encyclopedia.com/ww2/us/m3_stuart.php and there are a lot more places on the internet to find out more!

If you are interested in taking part in this GB, please let me know below.

If people are interested in taking part, we will flesh out the guidelines for the GB as we go.

Kind regards,

Stix

Well seeing as I suggested it to you then it would be rude not to sign up to it wouldn't it!

Also very happy to join you in hosting duties mate if you would like.

Here's a little bit of inspiration from the Victory Show yesterday;

If I was an armour modeller, I'd spring into this by building a British Stuart Jalopy, the turretless recce platform from summer -44. Since I'm not, so I won't. But it's a cool machine! Good luck with the GB proposal, though 👍. V-P

Hi Craig. That's great news! Thank you. And great pic too! Hope you had a good time at the show.

Did we not do Sherman’s last year. Personally I’m all in for any AFV group build.

Hi Marklo. We did, but we only had two M3 Lees appear in the Gallery and no Stuarts. As this is for M3 and M5 Stuarts only, I'm hoping @Enzo the Magnificent will be okay with it! I have added you to the list in the hope that the GB gets the okay from Enzo.

I certainly did but I'm paying for it now!

I'm sure he will be fine with it. The Stuart family has the M3, M5 and M8 as well as numerous modifications and filed mods including Yugoslav Partisan ones with the turret removed and replaced by captured German quad 20mm anti-aircraft guns, very cool!

The designation M3 was somewhat over used by the US military as not only is it used for the Stuart but also the Lee/Grant, M3 scout car and M3 half track! And M8 was also used for the Greyhound armoured car!! Very confusing!

Glad you enjoyed it but I'm sorry you are struggling now. Hope you feel better soon. I decided to stick to taking photos from the back garden. Got a few good ones, including quite a decent one of the Red Arrows.

Take care.

Wikipedia has M3 and M5 Stuarts as a single subject page.  That's good enough for me.

We have three STGB proposals vying for seven slots.  If it qualifies for the bunfight there is a very good chance this will get through.

I wouldn't mind giving the larger scale ones a go, so count me in Stix.

That’s great news Stef! I have added you to the list. Hopefully you will enjoy the larger scale. Have you a particular kit in mind?

Kind regards,

Stix

I would like to try one of the Classy Hobby's M5s. 1/16th scale but not an enormous shelf filler.👍

Thats about as big a scale as you can get! Should be nicely detailed.

Although a big price everything should be in the kit so I won't need to add extras. I need to start saving though.😬👍

Hi Dennis. Another great idea! And I agree with Craig about the M8. You are on the list too. Thank you.

So when you said big, you meant BIG! I will be very interested to see a 1/16 kit in this GB. I always look longingly at 1/16 kits in model shops and at shows……but have so far managed to talk myself out of them. Maybe one day…..

'Morning Stix. Now we all know that this will end badly (ie; it'll be another STGB that I don't finish), but please add me to the list. I've got a couple of M3's and an M5 in 1/35th scale, so theoretically I should be able to finish one in the time allotted. I've also got one of the 1/16th scale Classy Hobby M3's, but with my track record, (no pun intended) there's no way that I'll finish that in time. So if this does go through, I've got several months to prepare for it, so count me in.

Hi John. I hope you and yours are well. That's great news! I'm going to look on the positive side here - I'm really hoping this GB get's the go-head so we can have one of you impressive projects taking place in this GB and I'm sure we'll get to see it completed and in the Gallery! Can't wait! I have added you to the list.

Right. By my reckoning, we're already almost 1/3rd of the way to getting this STGB into the bunfight! We need 25 signups to qualify - so, if @Kingsman decides to sign up, we'll be over 1/3rd of the way there. To be fair, the next 2/3rds will be a bit more of a slog, but, you never know! Tell all your friends - your M3/M5 Stuart Single Type GB needs them!!

Kind regards,

Stix

Sign me up Stix, I’ve not got any Stuarts in the stash but I’m sure I can find one somewhere. Would be good to have an AFV build in next year’s calendar.
