Pete in Lincs Posted August 28, 2023 Posted August 28, 2023 Well, the bench was empty and looked rather sad. So I thought I'd better do something... I'd acquired two gluebomb Airfix superfreighters. I had a vague idea that I could use one to build a Mandalorian style ship. But then I changed my mind. So a Corellian freighter was born. Well, actually two of them, why ever not? I'd dismantled the models ages ago, so they'll feel no pain during the next bit. I assembled my Dremilalike minidrill jobby and a circular cutter and then sliced the fuselage halves lengthwise. Then again to reduce the height before joining them together again. Their tails got lopped off too. Here, the glue is drying. There is black plastic card bridging the joint to add strength. This may look like I'm making small Aircraft Carriers, but please bear with me. I've added card spacers across the gap. And, two pieces of wood to aid in the eventual mounting (steady!) of the models. Here the one in the background has the white card fitted. Still waiting in the foreground. I was off making tea. I should explain that these things don't yet exist in the Star Wars universe so I'm making it up as I go along. As usual. The one in the foreground is the correct way up. The front to the right here. This is just a basic shell. It will need more card to shape it further, and lots of filler to lose the windows and any gaps. Then I can start to add lots of greeblies to make them look the part. Basically what ILM did all those years ago. Meantime, these are resting under the weight of my Star Wars reference book so the glue joints dry properly. As always, Your comments and questions are welcome`at the usual address. The next box down ⬇️ 13
Richard E Posted August 28, 2023 Posted August 28, 2023 Venturing to plant the seed of an idea - could you make one twin-hulled ship instead of two separate craft ? 1
Pete in Lincs Posted August 28, 2023 Author Posted August 28, 2023 I could, I suppose. But I've already decided on the display method and to join them would cause structural problems given how I've built them so far. Thanks for the idea anyway. It may get used in the future. something like the cloud cars on Bespin? perhaps. 1

Pete in Lincs Posted September 5, 2023 Author Posted September 5, 2023 Have I got a bargain motor for you! 1
Pete in Lincs Posted September 10, 2023 Author Posted September 10, 2023 At last, here's an overdue update. Time at the bench has been a bit sparse recently due to work and home commitments. . Here's where we're at as of this afternoon. Card and filler has tidied up the hulls and greeblies are happening. The 6 inch ruler shows the size. The greeblies are (for now) just placed here for the pictures Given the scale of this thing (I think around 1/720 but I need to check on that) these Tie fighter style solar panels would be huge. Originally meant for a 1/35th German tank I think, I added thin plastic for the ribbing. Mounted on a metal rod & repurposed tank wheels. The jobbie behind here, on the spine, was a Harrier gun pod. Another tank bit repurposed. These (one on each hull) are on the underside. I added card and Tank and Aircraft bits for detail. Here, you can see the tank wheels that will mount the solar sails and another greebled Tank part. These ships came from the same yard that built the Millennium Falcon. So I thought this part looked okay in that light. In this scale, for detail, just search the bits boxes for the smallest bits you can find & select pairs of the best bits that look right. Hopefully you found something of interest here. I may get some more done tomorrow as I have a day off work. But who knows... Many thanks for looking and have a good week. Pete 11
Pete in Lincs Posted September 16, 2023 Author Posted September 16, 2023 Another weekend, so lets do the update thing. I got an hour or so this morning and managed to get bits glued on and photographed... The solar panels. This shows the inner sides and I've now stuck on the tank wheels. Also, upper left, these are the engine clusters for the back ends. Tank wheels/bits and Ju88 engine cowlings. Remember these are the undersides. Front ends to your Left. You can see from the different plastic colours that many sources were used. Not sure why it's this way round, but this shows the front end with an added bit. I think they were Helicopter engine intakes. The main structure here is made from Legoalike bricks. A RADAR/Comms type dish as on the Falcon. Mounted on a landing gear leg. And small bits including a googly eye. The rounded bit at the right is a RADAR mount from an F-15? The centre structure was a tank part. Again, various greeblies, And at the back we have this ex tank part freshly sprinkled with chopped greeblies. At bottom is the mount for a solar sail. Tomorrow I should find time for some primer and then I'll get to see where the gaps are (sigh) there's always a few in this game. The usual stuff about comments applies here as does, Caution, May contain nuts. Thanks for looking. Cheers, Pete 15

You have been hanging around me too long Pete, whatever next, 3 ship build 😉? That is good use of a nice pair of 'Bristols', one I have not thought of before, your imagination know no bounds. 1

voozet Posted September 20, 2023 Posted September 20, 2023 That's great! I really like the way you combine the greebles. Watching your SF construction logs is like ordering pizza of the day without looking at the menu at a good restaurant. You never know what will come out on top, but you know it will taste delicious 😉 1 1
madtatt Posted September 20, 2023 Posted September 20, 2023 Also some excellent kitbashing work. I'll stick with it. 📌 1
Pete in Lincs Posted September 25, 2023 Author Posted September 25, 2023 many thanks for the build comments, Chaps. Please nip over to the RFI post. 1
