Noel Smith Posted August 21, 2023 Posted August 21, 2023 (edited) This is one model that I feel would have great appeal. If only Airfix would make a nice 1/35th scale plastic kit of the Flying Scotsman. It must be the most famous locomotive in the world being the first to achieve 100mph, and having toured the USA and Australia. In 1/35th scale it would be compatible with many figures and vehicles in that scale. It would make a fantastic showcase model in its own right and besides appealing to railway enthusiasts who would like a large scale model but cannot afford a very expensive and heavy working engineered model, it would also have general public appeal as just about everyone knows of it, a bit like the Titanic. Going on to ships Airfix have really neglected their larger Classic Ships range. One ship that comes to mind is the famous Confederate raider the CSS Alabama of which no accurate plastic model exists. The 1/96th scale Revell one has a lot of inaccuracies besides being very big. If or were to be made about the same sort of size as the Airfix Victory, Vasa and Cutty Sark kits it would be a reasonable size. A model of the CSS Alabama would appeal to American modellers as well as here in the UK. Lastly an ornate Gypsy Ledge Caravan described as a Reading van from where it originated. In 1/24th or 1/16th scale of could be a nice addition to the Airfix range and have much more domestic 'sideboard' appeal than an AFV or aircraft model of mounted in a display case.
