Sorry late to the party

So good news and bad news. Good news, rewatching Battlestar (with the wife 😱) 1/2 thru season 3 atm.

Bad news, well you'll see

I did order some tiny OLED screens for a DRADIS display but they all arrived smashed and I don't think I could have done that justice anyhow.

So sprue shot

And now the bad new, I really should check these things when they turn up, but have to hide them too quickly. The owners description of "new" meant someone had started to hand paint bits 😩 So first job will be learning how to get that off (just an IPA bath????)

Welcome to the GB with a great subject! Bummer about the paint but I think you'll get that dealt with pretty quick.

Looking forward to this one!

Nice! Welcome aboard. I've finally got around to watching Battlestar and liking it a lot. Of course, I made the rookie mistake of thinking season 1, episode 1 was a good place to start - only to find it begins with "Previously on Battlestar Galactica...

Neat Dettol is good for acrylics, oven cleaner for enamels. Just stick the bits in a plastic tub and cover with the appropriate remover :)

Oh man, it gets more complicated than that, I've only just found this

oh nice, I take it these are difficult to get hold of now.

For stripping paint biostrip 20 is excellent for plastics although neat detol does the job.

Lovely! Shame someone else started it but at least getting the paint off should be pretty easy.

I have to be contrary here though, and say that I did not like the 2003 series. Love the ships and fighters* though! If they could meld the new look with the old show, I would be quite happy,

*the Vipers are a bit anemic though. I ended up grafting the rear of a TOS Viper onto the new version for a more balanced look.

We have a hands down winner (don't worry they weren't in that long) Thanks to @81-er for the Dettol tip (and then it appeared on the Modelling Weekly youtube channel too)
The paint just came off in sheets
Next time, I'm going to remember to put put clingfilm over it, my garage stunk! 😄

Right hopefully can get on with it now

Worlds. Slowest. Build.

Anyhow, I cracked out a few pieces. And did some rough fits
Err Starbuck, what are you doing?

And I think I might need to bend that back in somehow??

Good news, a much better arm has been found in all the flash 🤪 (its not even marked in the instructions)

But has anyone got any ideas how I would recreate this colour? The only figures I've ever painted are 1/72 pilots

Get a fine grain metallic paint as base layer, and then add the green in thin layers with a glazing medium to make it translucent?

So it put up a major fight but I've got it together.  The filler will now have to make an appearance as the fit wasn't good (I think it was still slightly warped?)

Sorry forgot to mention the flight suit colour was a mix of Tamiya metallic grey & silver with some clear green, then dusted with some very thinned Mr Color metallic gold

The primer has shown my filling isn't the best, but thats why we do it
(I've declared a modelling emergency at home, the wife knows she wont see me in the evenings now, I wonder if I can finish in time? 🤪)

Such declarations can be dangerous. They threaten to activate silent mode 😉.

As for your fighter: it looks great.

Yep. Nothing worse than Silent Mode.

Still, probably worth it to get this awesome build over the line.

(Disclaimer: never listen to fellow modellers on how to manage your marriage).

Well luckily she took me away for the weekend for my birthday so no silent mode yet :)

I tried some pre-shading with a mask I 3d printed (you can see it at the bottom of the stand) and a 1st coat
Might have been too cold in garage last night, the paint has gone a little rough???

I hadn't thought of 3d printing my own mottle masks before, that's genius!
