81-er Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 Very nice work so far, Jeroen, I really like the colour 3 hours ago, JeroenS said: Controversial or not, it's your choice isn't it... I wouldn't worry too much about what others think 🙂 .... I love Until It Sleeps from that very same album. Another very fine song indeed, I really like a lot of the Load & Reload songs, probably because they were the current albums when I got into Metallica. Fuel is another favourite, but somewhat risky to the license if listened to when driving. Load really suffers with the production choices though, all of the songs from that sound far, far better on the S&M album (not that anything on there doesn't sound amazing with the orchestra behind it) 3 hours ago, Marklo said: I like the load album particularly turn the page it’s St Elsewhere that I can’t listen to … and tellingly Metallica didn’t play any material from that album at either concert. The only time I've seen them play anything from it was on the tour supporting the album, and even then there wasn't much they played 🤣 James 1
JeroenS Posted August 27, 2023 Author Posted August 27, 2023 Good morning guys! I'm ready for clearcoat and chrome. It will take a couple of hours to dry out so I can do some other stuff in the meantime, not sure what yet. I'm not going to bother with stopping and starting sessions, I have so much time left that today will be over for me before I run out. I don't have time tomorrow so finish has to be today. So it's just one big session. Let's get to it! 7
JeroenS Posted August 27, 2023 Author Posted August 27, 2023 In the meantime, the painting was finished quite quickly but I took a picture just now. It needs some curing still, it may be a barnfind but I don't want too much fingerprints in the clearcoat. The Greenstuffworld chrome sprays beautifully and dries quickly as well. I'll be using the brush paint variant for the smaller bits. Now, those stripes along the body line, on the last one I foiled these as this is really the only option to do a decent job but it took forever. I think this time around I'll do a quick masking and just sort of dry brush the chrome on. 6
81-er Posted August 27, 2023 Posted August 27, 2023 That chrome on the wheels is superb, I'll have to get a bottle of that James 1
AdrianMF Posted August 27, 2023 Posted August 27, 2023 Looks fabulous - almost a shame to dirty it up Regards, Adrian 1

JeroenS Posted August 27, 2023 Author Posted August 27, 2023 Right, tyres.... I wanted flat tyres, and since I'm co-hosting Entropy GB I remembered @Trevor L mentioning a method he came across online. Here's the thread in Entropy where it's mentioned. This image comes from the thread: It looked like a viable method and the end result in step 6 is quite spectacular so I was willing to try. Which I did. So far I've done two, and it sort of works, but my conclusion is that the tiny VW tyres are not particularly suited for the process. They're quite narrow and the rubber is not very flexible so step 4 wasn't happening, at all. Let's see what did happen. This was my first try, and I cut too deep and along too large an area. After trying step 4 and going nowhere with that I tried cutting a piece of card to appropriate size and sticking it in. That worked. You can see my cut was way too deep. Anyway, first I tried thick CA, with activator spray and it just became a right mess. Thin CA then, also a mess but it got the job done. No fingers were glued together but it was close. I then proceeded filling those gaps with globs of thick CA and it's not so bad anymore. It's looking a little flat but this is the max for this small tyre. Anyway, with some paint and weathering powders on the tyres they look ok-ish. Like this, under the (dry fitted, still) vehicle. Now that I see them like this I don't think it's that bad, there are probably angles which look worse though. Of course, the chrome is still too shiny now, but I was glad I could still get the rims inside of the tyres. Now I'm going to do two more, I have to keep going since I've lost a bit of time with this malarkey. 8
Hockeyboy76 Posted August 27, 2023 Posted August 27, 2023 That’s a clever way to do flat tyres. Luckily no fingers were harmed in this post 1
JeroenS Posted August 27, 2023 Author Posted August 27, 2023 OK so I did the other two and this time I got wiser. I used two strips, one narrow piece to fill the gap. Then number two to widen the tyre. Now I have four of them, and I can say that I'd probably use this method again on some bigger tyres, now that I know what to expect. Now, let's move on from this. 5
JeroenS Posted August 27, 2023 Author Posted August 27, 2023 Time to start rushing things 🙂 Let's not talk about this shall we Yep, about as bad as I expected. Interior, just need to see a hint of red. It looks like crap but it's fine. Like so. See? It's fine 🤓 Let's glue that shell to the chassis. A little earlier, I realized that all my Vallejo Metal Colour paints had dried out. I need to buy new but I don't have them yet! So the underside will remain like this. As long as you don't turn it over you're not going to notice the cleanliness. 5
Trevor L Posted August 27, 2023 Posted August 27, 2023 Great job on the tyres, especially with the limited time of this GB. 1
JeroenS Posted August 27, 2023 Author Posted August 27, 2023 We have a car. Now it's time to stick all the little bits on. I'll be painting all of these "in situ". Time for a beer as well. In the background the Vuelta stage on Eurosport. Not the photo background, obviously. Britmodeller is very slow this afternoon, by the way. 5
dnl42 Posted August 27, 2023 Posted August 27, 2023 Outstanding work. All the more so given the time.
JeroenS Posted August 27, 2023 Author Posted August 27, 2023 All the bits are on, except for the headlight and rear light glass. For those pieces to go on, the chrome paint still needs to dry a little bit. This will happen over dinner which is shortly. But it looks pretty nice. When the glass is on and painted, I will go ahead and spray dust and dirt on the poor thing, after some weathering of the chrome bits, like on the hubcaps and rims. We have to do the dust because the flat tyres look a little bit oud of place now! 6
JeroenS Posted August 27, 2023 Author Posted August 27, 2023 All done. One final pic before it really became a barn find. Thanks for watching and commenting! Another fun Blitz. 8
Trevor L Posted August 27, 2023 Posted August 27, 2023 Great job. I like the dusty pics in the gallery, but I think you could have got away with it being a showroom car with the above finish (apart from the flat tyres of course). 1
Pete in Lincs Posted August 27, 2023 Posted August 27, 2023 Very nice, Jeroen. Will it fit onto one of your trucks? 1

AdrianMF Posted August 28, 2023 Posted August 28, 2023 Lovely! I like the bodywork colour a lot. Regards, Adrian 1
