Tonka84 Posted August 11, 2023 Posted August 11, 2023 I'm hoping the two links I have posted work as it's my first time using drop box and the first time I have posted in a long time as just getting my feet wet again after a couple of years out....can anyone identify for me the RAF Naafi vehicle in the pictures and if there is a 48th scale equivalent out there or something that can be converted? https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/s8a93liouk3l087p83pm8/Screenshot_20230731-081101_Chrome.jpg?rlkey=tijy4zcu25qyu0x2e51bhdb1a&dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/sjaliiz518lrle6lehndo/large_000000_261493896784577.jpg?rlkey=h1xgtmz825fbiwnhxg3x1j4zx&dl=0 Many thanks
Mark Oddy Posted August 11, 2023 Posted August 11, 2023 I’m thinking it’s a Ford but not sure what model. 1
Kingsman Posted August 11, 2023 Posted August 11, 2023 I'm thinking it's a1942 model G8T Ford 1.5 ton from the shape of the front wings visible in the 2nd linked photo. Ride height says 4x2 rather than the M-H 4x4 conversion. Nothing available in 1/35 or 1/48. PST do - or did - a few kits with the right cab in 1/72. But these seem to be hard to find. Milicast do one too, but it's £25. 1
Tonka84 Posted August 11, 2023 Author Posted August 11, 2023 I found some photos of a salvation army naafi on what was believed to be a chevvy body....either way we are thinking american with that style cab? I have a mk v spit that I would love to pair up with a possible naafi based on those pics.

Dodge headlamps were faired-in differently. More like individual pods, similar to Chevrolet. This one is a Chevy, and clearly a commercial model rather than military. Here are 2 other desert vehicles with a different body to yours on 1941 Ford chassis. There is a whole thread on Welfare Vehicles on MLU here: http://www.mapleleafup.net/forums/showthread.php?t=29168 Yours isn't on there. I've found your first image on Facebook captioned as an Austin K2, which it most certainly is not. 1
Phil Evans Posted August 12, 2023 Posted August 12, 2023 Slightly different view of the one with 601 Sqn 601squadron.com/men-of-601-squadron/a-through-e/brown-harold/ It's about a third of the way down the page. I don't think it adds anything, but lower down there's what appears to be a photo from inside the van looking towards the Spitfire. Cheers Phil 1
dcrfan Posted August 12, 2023 Posted August 12, 2023 Note single rear wheel not duals. You asked if there was a 1/48 equivalent. Here is a 1/48th Ford cab I cross kitted which would at least give you the cab and chassis. The cab is Tamiya GMC, the front mudguards are Tamiya US Staff car and the chassis is a Tamiya Blitz truck or alternatively you could use the Hasegawa Isuzu chassis. 4

Brilliant kitbashing there, love it!....I have a tamiya staff car half built. I'll have to look into the GMC.
