Hi all

Now that the Vampire TT is done I wanted something a bit more simple so I thought I would do the Special Hobby 48th Piper L4 Cub , then I thought I will also do a 48th J3 Cub from Sabre Kits, which is the lld Smer kit and noticed the Sword 48th Auster Mk.III which came out of the stash and thought what the heck I will do all three and was also looking at the Airfix 72nd Beagle Basset, that should do.

This is a lovely looking kit

Started on the Basset with the kit seats and double thickness Tamiya making tape seatbelts, fuselage glued together after cabin windows added, git is okay, but Sprue goo filler has been applied.  Will see how this cleans up as was hoping to retain the raised rivet details

The Sabre Kits J3 Cub started, with interior fuselage started , engine painted along with some seats etc.  The wings have been glued together and the fit was good,  the surface texture is very pleasing on this too.  The wing struts are bowed so I soldered 1mm brass to match the struts and will use that instead

Hopefully will get the cockpit sorted on this one soon and button up.  Then can start in the other two.

Thanks for looking

Reminds of that old joke "Two Pipers, an Auster and a Basset walk into a bar...."

A nice selection and 1/48 a good scale given their size. Do you have colour schemes in mind?

😄like it, thanks Ian, the J3 will be a Flitfire as per the box art, the L4 might be one of the 4 that landed in Paris and were parked outside the hotel whilst the crew enjoyed liberated Paris  although the Operation Torch one looks nice too???

The Auster may be an Army Co operation machine with invasion stripes and the Beagle is as per the box art.

The J3 is progressing well and builds up quickly too.

I love the Basset especially, and am glad to hear the parts fit is good, especially for the windows.  I just finished reading Sir Peter Masefield's fascinating and entertaining biography, Flight Path, which details the trials and tribulations of that aircraft, among others.

That's an interesting collection of models, always nice to see the Airfix Basset being built.

Thanks Guys, the Baset has gone together fairly well although the was a slight step along the join on the fuselage, I managed to slice the join over the cabin and cut of the lacsting pin and correct that but couldn't  get the rest so some filling and fettling was required.

It is such a lovely aircraft, I wanted to build one for ages butvtheg always eluded me until the vintage classic release.

Nice mix of subjects here, Chris - I'll pull up a chair, if I may?

I'll be interested to see how the two Cub kits compare, especially. Lima November Decals do a couple of nice civvie schemes for the J3. But that Auster with the shark mouth - it's so incongruous it's brilliant :D

Good start on the Basset - not a subject I'm familiar with, so I'll be watching with interest.

Cheers,

Mark

Thanks Mark, good to have you along fella, the two cub kits are very different, moulding technology has cone a long way between them.  The older one is building up well .  I am doing the Sabre kit one as the Flitfire on the box art and the SH L4 will be one of the ones that landed in Paris at liberation.

The Auster with the Shark north is trying to tempt me 🤔

The Basset is now all together just need to clean up the seems on the wings.

Will get some pics up soon.

Thanks

Chris

😄Thanks Richie,  it's not been too bad so far, although I wanted to keep all the rivets , although better check they are visible on the real thing I suppose.  The older cub is going together well too.

I like your added interior details very much, your scratched tape seatbelts are lovely. You've coaxed the Basset  together really well.

Crikey, Chris, you're motoring with these two! Great progress on both!

Thanks Mark, now the glazing is finally blended on the J3, it should move along a bit quicker now, got some of the L4 cockpit together, fit is fantastic so far and so looking forward to doing that one, just need to figure paint shades of Olive drab.

Thanks Alistair,  no worries fella, no apologies needed , I can’t keep up with everyone's builds unfortunately !!!

Still a long way to go on these, but so far very enjoyable,  I wanted a simple build and so far yhe Basset is bring just that as is the J3.

Thanks Richie,  the double thickness tape is lovely to work with and behaves well when bent to shape. I have to say the Basset has gone together very well so far and is looking quite good.

If anyone is tempted to do one, remove the locating pins on the fuselage as otherwise it doesn't line up properly.

Thanks guys for your kind comments.

A nice collection there Chris, and nearly finished too...

Stuart

Thanks Stuart, I have wanted to do these for ages, there aren't many parts to the J3 and Basset so have built up quite quickly. The L4 though has more parts and details, it is a lovely kit so far and Special Hobby have done a great job . The painting of that one will take a bit longer due to the weathering potential.

Looking forward to that one particularly.
