Recommended Posts

Once I've cleared away some of the other WIPs on my bench, I plan to build this

(although perhaps I shoudl try to sell it on ebay; they seem to be going for silly money ATM)

This is ‘new’ Galactica from the 2000’s.

New Galactica can be identified by the prominent ‘ribbing’ all along the hull. Old Galactica also had a prominent command bridge that’s not visible on the new one. The propulsion layouts are also very different.

There are loads of other differences too.

To my eyes at least, the re-make ship looks sleeker and curvier and generally more ‘modern’. Just like the show itself I guess.

Well, this escalated quickly

I thought about removing some of the locating "pins" to see if the fit was any better

Turned out, it was, so this happened

Then this. Filler will be needed, but it's not as bad as the test fitting

2023-10-16-10-50-52.jpg

Then other bits happened

2023-10-16-12-46-03.jpg

which lead to this

2023-10-16-12-51-29.jpg

and this.

There's something amiss with the instructions

Seems like the main hull shouldn't be stuck together until after these 2 sections are joined

Too late now, so out with the razor saw......

And finally, I got to this stage

Paint will have to be applied before I can do much more assembly

Looking good so far, I prefer the original design to the remake. However prefer the new tv show to the original. If for no other reason than it was on for more than 2 seasons. Likewise Im a bigger fan of the original viper’s over the new ones.

reckon you're in with a shot to get it finished?

Reckon so

Ready for primer

I got the first light coat on, but had to stop before my compressor threw a wobbly (it's a lot to spray)

Should get the rest of the priming done tomorrow

No going back now.

Indeed not

On with the light grey

2023-11-19-12-53-49.jpg

Trying not to be too heavy handed on the trigger-finger (unlike standard practice) to give a bit of tonal variation

I think it's ok(ish).  A little rough round the edges, but the darker grey and some washes will help fix that

Thanks to the great overlord @Enzo the Magnificent,we have an extension, so I don't need to rush quite so much

Slightly darker grey sprayed on the other bits, again lightly to keep tonal variation

And gold (paint) on the stand

Next, washes and drybrushing

Good looking gray coat. If you feel up to it, you can brush paint individual panels (handy with the engraving separating them) with slightly lighter/darker grays. It worked good on mine,

As for the base, I found the model to be a bit top-heavy and secured the kit base to a generic, decorative wood base bought from a hobby, craft store to be safe.

More progress

Decal;s have been applied and some detail painting

You could spend a very long time painting individual panels

Nearly there now.

Some more work on the panel lines, and a quick wash should see it done and dusted
