My first attempt at a set of trees.... Where are they out of scale? Too tall or boughs and branched out somehow?

Mind you, trees will the last thing I ever think of modelling! They scare me. But to answer your question, I think the branches look a bit thick and not "branched out" enough, if that's a word.

I see what you mean, I'll have a think and come up with something, maybe I could think them out using a blade or sharp scissors.

It wasn't easy following the YouTube video as the fella didn't pause and say how he did it and just assumed you'd fill in the blanks, I tried to make the boughs thinner in profile and deeper in height, almost like an eye rotated 90* buy all I did was make them really thick.

Thanks for the heads up!

Thanks to @Svedberg this is one of four new fir trees!

This is the trunk and branches that I will spray brown and then cut the double boughs into singles. 🤓

That was quick! Looking good

I'm really very grateful you nudged me in the direction of Boomers YouTube stuff.

He really has a great deal of excellent videos, I've been watching tree bids and how to make water tide stuffs, absolutely brilliant inspiration.

👍👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Glad to be of help. I have learned a lot from him myself. He is very talented and versatile. But he does get on a bit, as you noted earlier. 🙂

I've have spent quiet a few hours today on the next fir trees that are coming along nicely.

I have finished adding the batches and secondary branches and will start tidying them up and preparing for a airbrush coat of brown.

Photos to follow when I have something worth showing. 🤓

Wow that tree is a huge improvement! That looks ... well, like a tree. Nicely done!

I've spent alot of time on these trees and the work is bearing fruit!

I have four trees ready to be spray painted brown and my fine foam grass scatter stuff has arrived to glue on after the brown has dried.

I have spent today bending and rubbing the excess grass off and cutting the branches and sub branches to shape not only for the shape of thick at the base and getting thinner as you go up but also shaping the secondary branches to shape as the video, not too much, just enough.

They are way better because there are more branches and these branches are thinner and more to scale.

I think to a certain scale (not 1/48 or 1/35) the way I made the first set were ok but on a signature kind build where everything is as real as I can portray they didn't line up and I can see that now.  I think I always suspected deep down something was not right.  I think it didn't strike me until it was pointed out in a comment, exactly as I had thought inside - they're to thick and not enough branches!

I have had a wait because my airbrush broke and I was waiting on parts and figuring out how to take it apart and replace the internal parts.

That is now done and airbrush up and running again I could finish the four trees.

Thanks so much 🤓

Sometimes you have to fail or miss the mark to make progress and it's been a alot of work getting the trees right, a few new techniques learned and more fun added. 🤓

I, for one, would love to see this one finished, I'm hoping the 2 week extension will help with that!

I've still got someore layers of colour to add in between varnish coats after chipping.  The underside is done.

I'm calling the chopper finished (unless something jumps out at me to tinker with)

The helicopter is perfect. I like the underside of the Mig but I think the camo looks more poorly applied than weathered. I think you need to make it look more destressed and faded.
