RIP MGB

So I think I've settled on the idea of an abandoned scrapyard, heavily inspired by this video:

 

 

Incidentally, this channel has some cracking barn find videos if you've been thinking about going down that direction.

 

Picking a kit wasn't easy, but I'm going with this:

 

 

Recently liberated from my parents' house, I started it way back in the 90s:

 

 

The plan will be a little vignette of it rotting away (MGs are prone to that, right?) being consumed by weeds, hopefully with a figure of a YouTuber/urban explorer documenting some new content.

 

The undergrowth will be new territory for me, so I've got this for some pointers:

 

 

The other problem will be resisting the urge to add more cars to the scene. Don't tell Mr Magnificent, but I've got the Airfix Aston DB5 too and I've found an Ebay seller that makes 3D prints of 1/32 body shells of (mostly) terrible British cars - Allegro, Princess, Minor etc

 

The soundtrack to this build will be:

 

 

Famously released as an album, a film and a lawsuit.

I like it.

It seems a shame to defile an MG or an Aston, but I would be quite happy to see those other British 'classics' rotting away.

It's more the quality of the kits that lend themselves to being consigned to scrap than the subject matter. The reputation that MGs have for "issues around corrosion" is just a coincidence  

 

If I can find a Marina I might have to invest in...

Many apologies everyone. I just haven't been able to make much progress with this one and I know it's bad form for a co-host to be slacking like this but... Very sadly my dad died in the summer, so on top everything that that entails, my heart hasn't been in this build. You see, I bought this kit back in the day when me, my siblings and Dad went through a big Scalextric phase. He scratch built a pitlane garage out of balsa wood and we'd got some of the Airfix 1/32 car kits as trackside cars. He got the Aston, I went with the MG. I vaguely remember their being some fanciful notion of trying to motorise them.

 

Anyway, while rummaging through the box I remembered precisely why I lost all interest in building this kit first time round:

 

 

That's meant to be the radiator grill 

 

So for this GB I was planning to build it without the grill as if it had been cannibalised. I'd got a figure of a yoof to capture the entropy on his phone from Modelu.

 

 

There were also some experiments with positioning on a Wilko () picture frame...

 

 

...and I got as far as thinning out the wheel arches with a scraping tool so I could gently press in a bit of texture to imitate corrosion.

 

 

I intend to carry on with this when it feels right, it's still a project I want to experiment with. I'll set up a WIP in the diorama section.

So sorry for your loss. Take care of yourself and enjoy those memories.

Sorry about your Dad, I lost my Dad two years ago but he loved modelmaking (albeit trains and flying aircraft)  so I went the other way and making models made me remember him.

And always remember this is a hobby so it’s supposed to be fun and de-stress you. If it’s not doing that then take a break.

Yeah, back in the day we were sticking slot gear in them. In fact I just started rummaging in an old Pyro kit in 1.32. Ever come across those?? Cheap enough even as US imports to mess around with and slotify.

@rob Lyttle, not heard of Pyro, just had a quick Google and they didn't ring a bell. I remember longing to track down the Matchbox Surtees F1 car because that would have, ahem, slotted in perfectly.

As for your rotten MGB, I've the real thing in exactly condition you described so I'll PM you some pictures.  Fred Flintstone would be proud as the floors are completely missing. We called it "Tipex" as what little paint it has, looks like that's what it was painted with
