Just announced on the DBMK Facebook page that a 1/72 Supermarine Scimitar will be released immediately after the 1/48 version - very wise choice I think!

This will sell like hot cakes and put an end to the absolutely ridiculous prices scalpers have been charging for the Xtrakit models.

Maybe, but given that the DBMK product will be a 3D-printed kit, I wouldn't expect it to be cheap, either.

My mistake - I saw DBMK's other products which are 3D-printed, and assumed that was all they did. Thanks for the correction, Scimitar!

It is going to be injection moulded and multi-media.

Think Clear Prop, Wingsy or Dora wings.

Sounds brilliant and nowhere near the £90+ the Xtrakit is fetching second hand.

Oooo yes please! Not often I buy kits these days as a student with a hobby that involves flying the real things (well, gliders) but I'll certainly look at buying one of these on release!

I've got the Skybirds 86 one - I got it at a show several years ago for a low price because it wasn't in its original box. I haven't tried to build it though. I suspect I'll be in for the BDMK version as a penance for my 3D-printed mistake. Sack cloth and ashes for me - no, no - I insist. I was wrong, and I must suffer the delicious ecstacy of buying this new kit...

I wonder what my Skybirds 86 complete kit in box is worth?  Never would sell it, though, I was a gift from a dear friend in Nuneaton.

Probably around £2000-£3000 if the Xtrakit going rate is anything to go by! 😂😂😂😂

My thoughts exactly, just after acquiring a Skybirds ‘86 kit for the amazingly low price of $35!

If it is as good as the 3D PROTOTYPE that I had the pleasure of perusing a few weeks ago we are in for a treat. No bias intended.

Ooooooooh, suspect it won't be cheap but least you won't need to sell a kidney and your first born unlike for the Xtrakit  but it will be most welcome anyway

Got to be cheaper than buying a CMR F.1 for the RAE decals to use on a Tri-ang kit (as if anyone would think of doing that) 🫣

I just looked at the DBMK website and there doesn't seem to be an option to buy any of these kits (Scimitar, Hornet, F11F or Sea Fury). Has anyone managed to get their hands on any of these kits? And if so where do you buy?

Lot of really great announcements but no kits as yet (unclear to me if these are the folks that issued the 1/72 Venom). Let’s hope they have the financial depth to follow through with this very ambitious program, larger by far than Airfix this year.

Mmmm. Described on Hyperscale as 'vapourware': that thread lists seven kits announced so far...

DBMK Model Kits

Lastly I wanted to respond to comments about running before we can walk.

We have been heavily impacted by the invasion of Ukraine - our designers are based there as are some of the tooling and moulding companies we planned to use. The Scimitar is about 12 months behind where we expected it to be for example. It has also thrown the order of releases.

It takes 2 years to go from project initiation to having a product ready for sale. If we waited to start design on the second kit until then first one was on sale it would be years between releases - this is why we have pressed on.

We announce subjects early in the cycle to get the greatest amount of feedback and information at a stage before rework is necessary. Each kit design is supported by an expert panel of SMEs who help us get our CAD model to be as accurate as possible. David Collins has been invaluable for the Hornet as have Roy Sutherland, Steve Long, Robbie Nauffts and Steve Winter for the Sea Fury. We could not have done it without them. We both really care about accuracy.
