Very good. I'm still waffling on a pair of Guardians, A Savage, or a couple of Gutless Cutlass'

I built a Fujimi Cutlass not too long ago - interesting looking plane. A pair of Guardians or a Savage would be I think look most impressive.

My son kindly bought me this for Christmas

DSC09299-crop

It could certainly go into any of 3 forthcoming GB - this one, the Sabre/Fury one and "Baby Boomers", and might just be eligible for the NATO one, but I think this one is perhaps the best place for it - we shall see😄.

Pete

It would also qualify for the Sabre/Fury build.

Please count me in!  I’ve a number of types in the stash flown by the swaggering, ugly stepchildren of the US Navy - the Marines.😀  Thank you!

For the Fellow Virginian absolutely! Welcome Aboard.

I'll bite.  I'm on an armor kick right now but have plenty of aircraft in the stash that would fit the bill and break up the monotony of OD tanks on my workbench.

I think Academy's rebox of the Accurate Miniatures F3F would be a nice simple build for this.

EDIT: In researching the schemes, I realized that the VF-7 markings are not accurate for an F3F-2 as they only operated F3F-1s.  Since I like the black tail VF-7 markings I went to ebay and found a still-sealed AM F3F-1 for a good price, so maybe I'll just have to build both versions 🤷‍♂️.

Great build, I built the CA version a few years ago and found it was a decent kit.

I may be able to squeeze in one build here, around the time the WW II "Twins" and Frog GBs wind down, before the Airfix GB starts.

I would probably plump for a carrier-based propeller-driven subject from the WW II/Korean War era. I might also limit myself to relatively "modern" toolings: Airfix F4F-4, Arma Hobby FM-2, HobbyBoss F8F-2, Revell F4U-1 or -4, Eduard F6F, Hobby 2000 (Hasegawa) TBF/TBM, Hasegawa Skyraider.

I'm a little confused about the scope of this group build. Is it any aircraft of the US Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard, plus any other US aircraft that have operated from US Navy ships?

That's pretty much the scope of the GB. From 1910 to the Present. If you have a question about your subject, just ask..

Thanks. I wasn't quite sure from reading the original post. Nothing planned, just seeing if I can and what would be available. I have a 1/72 F-4 which clearly fits the scope, and I have a 1/48 F7F which was land based. The Academy 1/72 PBY and PBM kits look interesting to me, but they didn't operate from ships either.

Looks like I got posted to this GB for my first ship tour 🫡. All the modern pointy ones are possible, however I may choose the E-2C Hawkeye with the 8-blade props.

I have ludicrous amounts of options in The Stash.  However, I'm tending towards a Vought SB2U Vindicator in 1/48.  I have loved this aircraft since seeing Alan W Hall's build of the Rareplanes vacform in Airfix Magazine in the 70s.  There is just something marvelously mediocre about the aircraft.

Sadly one of Voughts lesser known and less successful aircraft. I always think it looks like a bigger Dauntless. Douglas built the Dauntless starting in 1940. Maybe just a case of very similar shape due to design needs.

nodnodnod.  In another paradigm it would be called "convergent evolution".

I really want to build it in the pre-war yellow wings scheme.    I have two of the Academy kits (ex-Accurate Miniatures) in The Stash.  One is the V-156 boxing while the other is an SB2U-3.  The V-156 kit would be more suitable for a pre-war SB2U-1 but...   given the fact that I've finally found a decent paint to represent Dark Slate Grey, I'd prefer to build this one as an FAA Chesapeake.  I need to compare the tailplane sprues in the two kits to see if I can cut down the ones in the SB2U-3.

Hmm, no, too risky boss. One slip of the knife and that's a ruined kit. Best buy another V-156 instead ;)
