Ahoy, Old Saiolors. After a long, long time, I return to modellers activities (with my google translate english...

I always  liked warsails, and a desire is the HMS Victory. But the size (70 meters, high is to much, for now...). I made my model in scratch in 1/100 scale, mainly aircraft. And the stuborn (is correct?, Who doesnt guive up?) insists with the scale.

However the sails are always in my mind. So, in these days I rewacht the Pirates of the Caribbean, and the Black Pearl appeared... Oh my Lord... It was a passion. I go to the net and search a lots of images. The plans was difficult, because there are many, but the drawing that I found have poor details. Patiente, lets go anyway!

The model was planned in 1/200 scale. Yes... I know... I could make the Victory in this scale. But the details... 😬 I'm crazy, but not like that! the "real" Black Pearl is 55 meters, more or less. inclued the bowstrip (my nautics knowledge is "google dependent"). The materials are mainly paper, cardboard, foam, skewers, whiteglue and superglue.

This is the plans that I used.

p?i=b48e210f04ce7161278e356818f88401

I cut the central structure and glued it in double cardboad.

p?i=20186c2d2e7bcfe4c4ca540ae43b17ca

p?i=99cafe9e15b9a852872f68b0cce1567a

I was the same with the deck. In this case I already cut off the excess cardboard.

p?i=997df07150f1a4680fc5e3affb463e49

Now a doubd. In portuguese, these parts are named "cavernas" (caves, in literal translation), I dont know in english. The pieces are glued in foam. Later, I cut the pieces.

p?i=059cfc016d7a53b638acf17f82181112

Finally I cut the parts fittings (I hope this correct).

Gidday @adolfocaetanonetto, this will be very interesting to see come together. Sometimes words don't translate well. What you've named "cavernas" I would have named "frames" in English. There are probably other names for them too. But it doesn't really matter. I think we can all understand you and your build.

Regards, Jeff.

Hi, Ambrose. Realy I dont use the translator to "freame" (thanks for help! 😀). I think that the google dont translate correctly. So I write with the wrong word... 😁. In Brazil we say "Dei uma de João sem braço" (I'm played like a John without an arm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🤣 - I love traslate popular expressions, they are horrible.

We use this expression when we do something even though we know it is wrong. And this is  something that Brazilians often do, unfortunately.

Mounting sequence! I started the mounting of frames in the central structure/keel, using EVA glue. Between the frames I glue pieces of foam to give resistance. At that time I realized that I needed remove the cardboards glued in the frames, to be able to sand the foam properly., and to give the shape of the hull.

p?i=b27c47550ec67dad371a41239c92de17

I see that the frames had flaws. To resolve this, I glued foam strips in the places with errors.

Frames sanded

I cuted a spáce to the deck hatches; and glue the ster wall, made of foam.

p?i=79a26cc5094a3bde8a4a97dce4335491

Finaly, I cut the main deck, and I cut the hatches. To test if it are correct, I positioned the piece in its place. In this image is possible see better the frame sanded.

👍I’m always very impressed with how much you can do with cardboard. I remember your U-boat project well.

Thanks Steve. I'm glady with your words! The mounting under classic jazz, like Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Glenn Miller and Henry Mancini help! 😉

Ahoy, Ambrose. The stern was make with a cardboard with the shape and glued in the foam. After dry, I cut the shape and glued in the central structure/keel; in the piece I cut a groove to adapt in the keel.

I am loving this already 😊😎

Who needs a kit?? NOT THIS GUY.... ⚠️

Bravo, Adolfo, so far. A bunch of card and foam board and.... Boom.!

I really need to watch this. I'm not a ship builder, or sailing ships at all. I mostly build aeroplanes. But now, by accident 🤔, I have the old Revell HMS Bounty kit and for some reason I'm hooked and addicted.

I have a LOT to learn and I think this wip thread could have some information that I will need.

👍

Also Google translate is very very funny and entertaining 😄

Thanks, Rob. Realy scratch is a challenge: escolher o material que melhor se adapta para o que desejamos fazer é uma peripécia; além disso, são muitas tentativas e erros (muitos erros). And lets go for more mounting! I increased the resolution of the images for better viewing.

Here I build the hull, using thin cardboard. Each card strip was glued between two foam frames, with eva/foam glue. When I noticed that the shape of frame was wrong I sanded it.

p?i=3de475d8ab558e57e28c26152a9ad2b7

The card strips were glued one on the edge to the other; "If a place was no cardboard" (I realy dont speak this... 🤐), I glued a card strip there.

p?i=265e6ef3656cd6937dab5228d15c0c20

.I placed the main and top decks in theis places to cut the hull in th correct local. The hole is the place of the main mast.

p?i=1edee1a72f8704adfc9a28c81028306b

The stern will cuted later. The hull was sanded.

Hy Steve. I actually have the model assembled a little bit advanced, but editing the images and thinking of an explanation (in english... british english 🧐) that is at least didactic takes time. Dont forguet that I was born and live in Third World, in a Latin American Bananas Republic - governed early by a antivax, and now by a condemned corrupted, both supporting a tyrant that invades another country - I want political refuge, PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😫.

Cripes!

When you put it that way It sounds like the Black Pearl is facing some unfavourable winds. Still, I’m sure Captain Jack Sparrow and crew would be undeterred, press on Regardless I say! 🏴‍☠️

Hi, fellas. I started the hull and decks planks.

I saw a guy in Youtube building a HMS Victory scratch with cardboard, like me. But to made the planks he use dry banana leaves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😶. Well, if he can, we maybe can. I live in a bananas republic, and the bananas growhup in the alphalt (🤥), with the monkeys jumping between then (😁).

Realy, my neighbor have some babanas trees. And this is an advantage of living in a tropical country, and this I love in Brazil: fruits, vegetables, bean, rice, all fresh!!!! Sometimes my wife and I (yes, I married yet... I think) buy beans directly from the farmer - live in a small city help!

I take the leaves and I wait dry. Was raining and the leafs was wet. Look the pattern of stains... this will a good result.

p?i=35309e010035739671d0cb35266fa662

After dry. I put the leaves under a wooden plank and a lot of weight on the plank, to . To my delight it didn't work, and the leaves remained wrinkled.

p?i=4b5e8eb090b3e6f27c86069e117f9eec

Finally I glue the leaves in A-4 paper using white glue, using a piece of plastic to smooth the leaves while the glue dried. I think that is good!

p?i=02045f5debccbff73230a18fe28f5ce9

I cutting lots and lots of strips, 1,5 mm more and less.

p?i=88accef3f3bdc1d97300bb8be33da111

I glues the "banana planks" in the decks (in this case is the stern deck). The excess will cut off later.

p?i=058a4e62437e9ea108e29163e8c08c31

The stear deck ready with the mast hole. And the bow deck started; look that I cut off the hatch, and I glued the planks to match with the hatch edge.

In Brazil we say that "isso é serviço de preso!" (this is prisioner work), a boring work, repetitive. But I liked the result

p?i=dd8ee43d18a3e8452961d81d93c650c6

The main deck 😫. I went as far as I could; at a certain point I couldn't see anything else!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its was time to rest!

More mounting. The structure hull is ready, with the bulwark with corretc shape? (Is it correct? The walls over the decks, to protect the crew to do not fall in sea?)

p?i=dacb6aff0d6aa19a899c5cd8eed33737

In the bow deck I used depron to raise the height.

p?i=9970cc49f0e3e16ab5720e6773c9bee5

Card pieces was glued to prolong the bulwark.

p?i=f1b53cf0e19adb72fe176fbf808ace1e

So, I mounted the bow deck and I started building the hull planks. First I mounted the inner planks, in the bulwark

p?i=af228fcfcd6ddcbfc8acf1614900b5e8

Later I started mounting the hull planks. I was glued one by one, gluing an end before; after dry, I was glue the rest. You see that I cut off the excess of the inner planks in the bulwark. In the stern the outside planks still with excess.

p?i=45083e463cd92c9953d82ac0737e10fb

and the process continues... and never ending... 😬. Oh Lord!

p?i=0c8364915efa75e46d5f706372d5fecf

p?i=bde5d22105baadb92e1c5e9641420159

to make the hull bottom I glued some cardboards to reinforce the structure; it was soft and there was a depression when I squeezed it. After I sanded.

p?i=f8fcd041c9e51835874700f265d6e1ac

To continue the planks, I glued those that stay in the keel.

p?i=7aab37e730287497fbcc0df5a1be704b

Here I cut off the excess of the planks in the stern.

p?i=792cc09e17c3470494607c2a91dd8d9e

Here you see how I glue the planks, starting in an end, and gluing the rest after the glue dry.

p?i=e030b8605859ee2fe03e75aa9ffdc578

And the result. Realy I liked. But was a hard work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But very well done. Are you going to paint the hull or leave those planks in their natural form? Regards, Jeff.

Ahoy, Ambrose. I think that I will use a wash in the hull, to make it more dark, and to hidden the white of the carboard. In hands, the banana leaves realy like wood!
