Hi all,

Here's my latest 3D printed kit update, this time for the Kinetic 1/48 Sea Harrier FRS1 and FA2 (they may also fit the Harrier Gr1/3 and T-Harriers).

The update consists of two parts, including the prominent fan and then a representation of the compressor.

1/48 Harrier Intake Fan

1/48 Harrier Intake Fan

1/48 Harrier Intake Fan

1/48 Harrier Intake Fan

As can be seen, there is an enormous improvement with these parts, when compared with the original kit part!

Kinetic intake fan, selling for £6 plus £2.50 postage.

See also, upgrade for the Hasegawa kit (will also fit kits that use the Hasegawa plastic - Revell & Hobby 2000). 3D printed upgrade featuring a two-piece fan.

1/48 Hasegawa Harrier Replacement Intake Fan

Hasegawa intake fan, now selling for £8 plus £2.50 postage.

Cheers!

Ben

Hi,

Possible to scale up to 1/32 for trumpeters abortion?

Unfortunately not - the Trumpeter kit has the fan built into the ducts, it'd require a completely new design.

Tempting for a few, but do post overseas?

I do indeed, just updated the ebay listing to include worldwide postage (£4).

Looks great Ben, what’s the reason for the replacement intakes, just curious as to what is wrong with the kit parts

Thanks Ali 😊

The kit part is pretty crude, the most challenging aspect is the actual openings aren't parallel and the aft edges are rounded, lots of modellers have corrected this with plasticard.

The 3D printed replacements are more detailed and crisper.

Patience, dear boy ;)

Fans are printed, intakes are printing (I've ben away over Christmas!). If the prints were properly (now that I've improved the supports), these will be ready to post in the next couple days :)

Is it possible to scale these up for the 1/24 airfix kit please ?

In theory, yes, but everything has to be customised for a specific kit. Unfortunately I don't have the 1/24 kit, I doubt I'd get enough sales to justify buying the kit, therefore I have no plans to do this in 1/24 im afraid 😕

Kinetic Harrier intake replacement complete, soo to be available :)

Kinetic Intakes

Nice!  It does your part correct the overly thick leading edge of the kit parts? Difficult to see without context. That was the main, and hard to correct flaw of them in my opinion.

Hi Ben,

Unfortunately I can't find your eBay shop 😕

I found the A-4 intakes via the link on your FB account. But searching your name or your stuff showed nothing available!?!?

Oops I accidentally paused sales whilst on holiday. I'm back now and I've restarted the sales, it all should be visible.

The intake is slightly sharper than the kit part, but it wasn't my main intention when designing the 3D printed replacements. To be honest, I didn't quite spot that!

See my build photos below:

How about a complete new intake for the Hasegawa Harrier? For absolutely no reason they left ugly gaps where the intake trunk meets the fwd fuselage.

Of course it's possible to fill those gaps, but that would mean that the painting of the intakes have to be done afterwards...which takes away the advantage of painting your fan and the intake in advance.

Very nice build!!

I tihnk the leading edge will need a little more thinning but the whole intake does look much better than the kit parts!!

While I like that Kinetic have taken on the Harrier (I have he FRS.2 and GR.3 on the shelf :) ) they could have paid more attention to the shape... The whole fuselage is overly fat in the mid section...

but still, on the whole, better than previous kits.

Temma-san in Japan is really going to town with scratching up the "ultimate" correct Sea Harrier from all sorts of parts (Monogram, Tamiya...). His verdict of the Kinetic parts was kind of devestating LOL :)))  https://soyuyo.main.jp/seaharrier/seaharrier-1.html

I'm soon to start the Hasegawa GR kit, I may decide to make an upgrade!

I saw that! The radome on the Kinetic FA2 is also too short and the wrong profile....

Unfortunately, I'm not an expert builder, unlike Temma-san and I'm not brave enough to take on that kind of kit improvement!
