1/48 ICM Beaufort as AW207 BX-H of 86 Squadron. Lost on November 24th, 1941. RFI

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I've finished ICM's 1/48 Beaufort, built as AW207. Two criticisms for the kit: the provided interior is quite sparse while the clear pieces are super clear, and the fronts of the engine cowls have a bit of a peculiar shape. Other than that I was very happy with the kit - it builds really nicely into a chonk of an aircraft and building it was a boatload of fun.

I added many bits from the various Eduard detail sets that are currently available. First time tried their "Space" products and they are wonderful. Also really liked their T-face masking set. I further enhanced the interior with seat cushions made from epoxy - also a first for me.

For the exterior, I used the cowls made by Aerocraft ( @Ali62 ) and these were simply fantastic and Alistair provided some great customer service. Highly recommended!

I modified the wings slightly to represent a late Mk 1 aircraft with machine guns in both wings.

Wheels are from CMK.

I had planned to scratch build the mine but I was lazy and I got a resin item from Belcher bits.

WIP and background here:

The model is painted mainly with AK Third Gen acrylics (except the underside, which was Vallejo). Weathered with enamels and oils.

Anyway, on to the pictures!

That is stunning a beautiful build. What I really like is the cowling rings and exhausts you’d really struggle to tell that it is a kit and not the real thing .

That is a showpiece work of art you have made.  Just a beautifully rendered version of the Beaufort in both build and finish.  Thanks for sharing and giving some inspiration as to how good of a kit this can be built to be.

Hi there,

that’s really museums quality! Fantastic modeling! Also like your WIP.  Very interesting and instructive! These new colors of 3rd generation are looking perfect. Is that out of bottle?

thx for sharing

I use their brand thinner to thin it for airbrushing, but other than that yes these colours are from the bottle.

Very nice.

I know it’s a small thing, but that canopy is beautifully clear.

It's one way in which ICM kits stand out - their clear parts are usually super clear. Their figures are also fantastic by the way, injection moulded but almost as crisp as resin.
