ModelingEdmontonian Posted June 5, 2023 Posted June 5, 2023 (edited) My Minor Gustavs project is modeling Bf 109Gs or derivate versions in service with the "smaller" air forces (i.e., not Germany or Italy). To date I have modeled Slovakia (Airfix G-6); Czechoslovakia (KP S-199); Finland (Airfix G-6); and Romania (Hobby Boss G-6 converted to Ga-6 thanks to RB Productions resin). Several of my remaining subjects would qualify for this GB (Croatia, Spain, Yugoslavia), and I've decided I will do a Yugoslav G-10, using the 1/72 Revell kit . . . . . . and Exito decals. Exito gives you a nice poster which is now hanging above my modeling desk. I'm excited for this GB and look forward to seeing the other builds too! Edited June 13, 2023 by ModelingEdmontonian 12
2996 Victor Posted June 5, 2023 Posted June 5, 2023 That's a rather splendid-looking '109, ME, I'll definitely be watching your progress! Cheers, Mark 1 1
RidgeRunner Posted June 5, 2023 Posted June 5, 2023 Welcome to the group, MM :). Good luck with your interesting build . 1
marvinneko Posted June 6, 2023 Posted June 6, 2023 Unique scheme . Will be an interesting paint job! 1
Wez Posted June 6, 2023 Posted June 6, 2023 Good to see post war use of these aircraft, much like my Greek Spitfire. Good luck with it. 1
Jordan Giddins Posted June 6, 2023 Posted June 6, 2023 A great looking scheme, best of luck with your Yugoslav Gustav. 1 1
ModelingEdmontonian Posted June 13, 2023 Author Posted June 13, 2023 Thanks all for the encouragement and greetings! I've decided to expand this to include the Croat Bf 109G-14, too, from my Minor Gustavs project. So, it'll be a double build. The Academy kit is the one I will use. I'll be building "Black 10"... ...with some combination of these decals... I got both the Revell (left) and Academy (right) sprues chopped and washed today. 9
2996 Victor Posted June 13, 2023 Posted June 13, 2023 Two excellent choices, ME, I'm looking forward to seeing these come together! All the best, Mark 1
Jordan Giddins Posted June 13, 2023 Posted June 13, 2023 Best of luck with 'black 10'. Interesting to see one in Croatian markings. 1
ModelingEdmontonian Posted June 15, 2023 Author Posted June 15, 2023 Cockpit parts are off the sprues and getting cleaned up. I attached the seats. Nothing fancy or excessive with these kits, just a tub, seat, IP, and stick, plus Academy includes the "wheels" (don't remember what those are all about--just checked the Google, I guess those are for elevator trimming?)... 3

Corsairfoxfouruncle Posted June 15, 2023 Posted June 15, 2023 Welcome along, Ive done the Yugoslavian 109 myself. Its an interesting scheme isn't it. 1
John Masters Posted June 16, 2023 Posted June 16, 2023 This looks like a lot of fun ME. I'll be joining in soon with my Yugoslavian MS-406C. 1
opus999 Posted June 16, 2023 Posted June 16, 2023 That is a great scheme on the Yugoslav 109. Can't wait to see that one come together. I have a Croat G-10 (the famous #4). I have been apprehensive about making it because the photos of it show the paint to be extremely faded, and I'm not confident of matching the look correctly. I'm looking forward to seeing your Croat 109 come together too. 1
ModelingEdmontonian Posted June 18, 2023 Author Posted June 18, 2023 I began painting some RLM 66 inside. I also prepped some parts to spray with rattle can black. Actually, most of these parts won't end up black, but I think the black will serve as a good undercoat. 7
ModelingEdmontonian Posted June 20, 2023 Author Posted June 20, 2023 Fuselages are now together. Croatia (Academy G-14) is by far the better quality kit in terms of crispness and fit. Yugoslavia (Revell G-10) is flashy and the fit is disappointing. Also, it requires me to install the exhaust stacks prior to fuselage assembly (never appreciate this), and I failed to drill out holes in the forward fuselage for the "jowly" bulges, so I'm annoyed by that (of course, that's my fault, not Revell's). Meanwhile, some RLM 70 going onto the Yugoslavia prop and the Croatia prop/spinner. 7

ModelingEdmontonian Posted July 13, 2023 Author Posted July 13, 2023 I have the basic a/c together now for Croatia (Academy Bf 109G-14). Fit continues to be pretty good on this kit. Yugoslavia (Revell Bf 109G-10), on the other hand, is rough. There's an awful step on the fuselage, such that I'm using some card to see if I can fix it. I've realized I failed to drill out the holes in the forward lower fuselage for the "cheek" bulges, so will now have to figure out how to do that with the fuselage already together. Can't blame this one on the kit... 5
81-er Posted July 14, 2023 Posted July 14, 2023 I've recently picked up the Revell G-10 kit myself, and marvelled at how much flash is on it. Thanks for the heads-up on the fit James 1

ModelingEdmontonian Posted July 17, 2023 Author Posted July 17, 2023 With wings on, here are some of the gaps I'm dealing with on Yugoslavia (Revell G-10): Using some card to fix them up: More or less fixed up with drop tank now attached: The upper fuselage step is still bad, but I've given up with it where it is. For both Yugoslavia and Croatia (Academy G-14) I readied some peripheral parts, mostly UC, for priming. And then sprayed the primer! Now starting to work with some RLM 02. 10
