Dmitriy1967 Posted November 17, 2024 Author Posted November 17, 2024 From some angles of the Leopard, the family features of the German tank building are clearly visible. I already love the MENG company for such detail. Everything that can be moved and rotated. Lifting the side armor shields. 11
Dmitriy1967 Posted December 2, 2024 Author Posted December 2, 2024 As we found out together earlier, the uniform of the tankers that I have from MENG does not correspond to 1988. So I started looking for the right figures. To my surprise, there are practically none. There are a lot of German tankers from the Second World War, but the Cold War period was not popular. The only thing I found was a set from the Korean company Valkyrie. These figurines are praised for their high quality. In Russia, no store sells these figurines. I started looking for options to order from another country. Now, for all known reasons, it is very difficult to do this. I found companies that deliver goods from abroad. After all the calculations with shipping and customs duties, the price reached $ 105. I have many different hobbies and often spend unreasonable money on them. If I really need something, I'll buy it. And $100 is not such a big amount. But two plastic soldiers shouldn't cost twice as much as a tank. This is wrong. I continued my search and on a well-known Chinese site where everything in the world is sold, I found exactly the same Valkyrie set at a price of $ 4. Of course, I understood that it was a fake. But for such ridiculous money, I decided to order and see what it is. Yes, it turned out to be a bad copy of Valkyrie. But I don't have another one. On the left is a tanker from MENG, and on the right is also a Chinese, but a cheap fake. Sorry for the quality of the pictures, I'm taking pictures with my phone and the heavily enlarged photos are blurry. From the side, you can see that there is a hole in his nose. I hope he doesn't have any contagious disease. 🙂 Now we can compare it. The two on the left are the old MENG crew, on the right are two new tankers. Since I have no other alternatives at the moment, my Leopard will be controlled by these new tankers. I let them get to know their new tank. 11
Dmitriy1967 Posted December 2, 2024 Author Posted December 2, 2024 Before painting their Panzerkombi, I decided to mark the shadows with black paint. I hope they will shine through the main сolor. And with white paint, I lightened the protruding places a little. 7
Dmitriy1967 Posted December 2, 2024 Author Posted December 2, 2024 Now I have to mix different colors to get the correct color of the German Panzerkombi, which was in 1988. And which I've only seen in photos. Everyone who has served in the army of a country notices small nuances in the military uniform they are familiar with. So when I see the figures of Soviet soldiers, I note whether the color is similar or not. I can't even describe in words what sometimes doesn't suit me. Just a slightly different shade and that's it. It's probably the same for all people from different countries. So these will be Panzerkombi, as I imagine them to be. 🙂 But criticism is welcome, it will be useful to me and to those who read it. 1
ERK Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 These are my Mini Art 1 35th British Modern Army figures standingin my Challener 11 TES tank - it gives an idea of shadin the fatiue camo colours. Erk. 8
Terry1954 Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 Great progress since I last looked in here Dmitriy. I liked your meticulous approach to sorting out the drive sprocket - correcting the sort of oversight that I regularly make! I'm interested in your approach to painting the figures. Figure painting remains quite a challenge for me, yet they are key to bringing a model alive. I'll keep watching! Terry 2

Erk. Thank you, Erk. Unfortunately, the colors of the British camouflage will not help me much with the German crew. You painted these tankers very well. In the last photo, the face generally looks like it's alive. 👍

I did not come across such figures during my searches. I've been looking for them right now. There are none in Russia. On two foreign websites, when placing an order, I was refused delivery to Russia. Unfortunately, these are difficult times... But it's okay, I'll have skinny tankers from China. 🙂 Thanks again for the tip! 1
Jochen Barett Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 I understand there are good reasons we don't see too many German tankers in Russia these days (be it 1/35 or fullsize) and it wasn't so great in the 40ies. Maybe you can convince your government to invite a few (at least the 1/35 version) or ask politely to generate conditions that allow them to travel freely again. 😇 2
