The Spadgent
Hey there. It’s been months since I finished Dewey but I never got around to taking any RFI pics. It was a lovely day in the sun so I figured why not. This was a labour of love for me as Silent running has been one of my favourite films since I was a kid. Sadly Doug Trumbull died around the time this thread was started so in his honour I dedicated the WIP this RFI and Dewey to him. There are some great Dewey kits out there but as I’d recently bought a Mars 2 Printer I wanted to make my own. The drone was made in 3D studio max using movie shots as reference. some old school modelling techniques were also employed during the build. Which can be found here. He was painted using Tamiya acrylics and ammo filters. Sorry it’s taken so long to get the RFI done, I struggle with taking pics thinking they never do the model justice so what with life being too short I figured what the hell and just took some snaps in the midday sun. ☀️ excuse the table cloth. 😂 If you followed the build I hope you liked it and if you didn’t consider giving it a little peruse to see what went into the seeet little dedication. without further ado I give you Dewey# Drone 1 And there you have it. I hope you like him. I enjoyed it so much I’ll have to go do the others. Take care and as always dear chums, happy modelling. Any comments please feel free to post. boston1832
Just caught up with this and the build thread. What a fabulous build, especially considering your 3D printing was such a learning experience. I've not really come across the commercial kits before, but yours seems to be nigh on perfect anyway - well done. Silent Running and Dark Star were two of most memorable movies of my childhood so it's great to see such a reminder of one of them. I'd quite like to try the talking bomb from Dark Star one day... 1
Pete in Lincs
I'd forgotten Dark Star. Really low budget IIRC.

The Spadgent
Thanks once again for all the wonderful comments. as requested by @Mike I took a snap while sitting in the garden this morning. Dewey is about 5” tall 12 or 13 cm. Here he is next to a Banana and a mug. Other fruit are available. 😇 🍌 Johnny. 7 1
Mike
He’s a good size, as is your banana. A banana is actually a poor guide to scale, so it’s a good job you included a mug
