Gators G Ced or Formula 560

Dries almost as soon as it touches

I've been remiss, missed much of the development fun so I'm back off to enjoy a slice of Ced-History

See you later

Thanks James, Jont, Cookie and Bill.

Another period of inactivity caused by, wait for it, problems removing the masking fluid. Some people never learn.

After a few sessions with various tools:

I got to a few remnants like this:

Some touch ups required around the frames:

53092035342_4f79cdb104_z.jpg

That canopy top doesn't fit really well so the 'open option' will be used!

I also knocked off the aerial post so that's been CA'd back on and I'll leave it to dry for a bit.

The trials and tribulations us modellers have to endure Ced! Regardless of that, she's looking pretty good.

I just bought some Humbrol Maskol in a fit of nostalgic recollection of teenage modelling!  Now...  Have I opened it?  Did I get a receipt? :hmmm:

Notwithstanding the ts and ts wot terry refers to, she's still looking good, Ced.

Use it, but dont leave it six months before you take it away maestro.

Strange isn't it, we only see the faults…

Wot Bill says - I think the 'net wisdom' is no more than a couple of days. For me, knowing life diverts me from the bench, I think I'll be back to tape unless I'm SURE I'll be taking it off.

Still looking ace though. 🙌

Thanks Jont.

I have been picking at that masking and now I think I've sorted it. Finally. Some dot painting around the canopy too:

Still drying.obvs.

Another pain was applying Dulcote to the transfers on the wing. Duller than the rest.

So I've brushed some Galeria over the top:

We'll see what it's like when it's dried.

Another thing to watch out for.

If you're using hearing aid battery packs for small amounts of paint (why would you), make sure the paint doesn't flow into the varnish bit:

53105750172_cdb5330323_z.jpg

It wasn't that bad while I was brushing but, I guess, coloured varnish is no problem.

We'll see.

Weathering I'll call it.

Looking good, you’re nearly there.

I’ve wondered before where you get the mini palettes. So you’re deaf then are you?

john

Thanks John. What's that you say? Eh?

No, not deaf as such but my eldest is an Audiologist so I've had aids for a while. I only use them when watching TV as she also gave me a bluetooth connection that means I can listen on the aids with the TV sound off!

Cool technology.

Sadly the current model is rechargeable so the supply of pallets has ended. I have quite a few though.

Thanks G. Not long now.

For some reason I've been scared of doing this:

Done now. I just need to find a suitable brace.

Looks like a good way of doing it.  Feel free to keep the shelf behind the pilot empty.  Life rafts were optional at this point in the war, because missions were almost entirely overland, according to the photos I've seen from the 47th BG.

Well CED, I have just been reading this thread on catch up. Looking good sir. As for mini pallettes I use the good old milk bottle tops. They are great and free ish.

Good to know but I've always thought the liferaft gave a really nice splash of colour!

The good old trick of the big blue tack blob to hold in place doors and the likes for gluing - it always works   👍

Thanks Alex. I will. Keen to see this done!

It does! Thanks G.

Bomb signal light installed:

53121442690_e171c54fae_z.jpg

Should be fine when the canopy glue dries. I've also painted the top OD as per references.

I've looked in the Flight Manual but I can't see when the bomb signal light was used. Presumably when bombs were dropped to warn those behind and below?

Gator's Grip and MUCH Anglo-Saxon got the torque thingies on:

Nose guns installed:

53121040441_3417f51680_z.jpg

A pain getting them straight.

Cockpit detail visible if you squint:

53121527038_c3234b6536_z.jpg

So, guess what the final job is before the props go on?

My word this looks good, Buffers. I had a few Havocs in the stash before the Great Cull of 2021, but I was always afraid to build them due to the tricycle landing gear and the need for noseweight.

I'm guessing aerial rigging?

Good point, i think that too? The medium white lycra rigging on the left of your

pic sort of gave it away.... :D

Coming to completion and looking very good, Ced! :clap:

Correct! Today I finally summed up the courage to get on with it.

Wowza!!! Looking fantastic!! Glad I’m not the only one that balances drying parts with blu-tac.  Looki g forward to seeing all these in the flesh. 🤩

 Johnny

Won't be long now Jont so time I got it finished.

Finishing touches.

Support for canopy:

53134771780_4ec5f77af3_z.jpg

Hmmm.

Ready for the rigging:

53134377081_7bc3c2d8c4_z.jpg

Plan is drill holes in fin, poke lycra in, blob CA in the hole.

Worked OK after some Anglo Saxon:

53134637939_144d88e4bd_z.jpg

The insulators are just tube glue.

To be honest I'm glad this is over so no RFI, but here are some pics for you guys:

53134968178_fc38ccdfc2_z.jpg

53133894822_6ef14a54c1_z.jpg

53134906540_feea880b8c_z.jpg

It fought me to the very end.

The final job was to instal the props and I thought 'Great, soon be done',

Then they didn't fit.

I don't have a drill that size.

File down the shafts and shove them in.

Yep, one of them broke off.

Final task is to box it up.

Sometime.

Back to Quinn's mobile now. Come on over if you're not there yet - I'll be masking the camo next.

Soon.
