1/48 Tornado GR.1 Tabuk 1991

Recommended Posts

Thanks to everybody who followed along during this slow build - I like to get my money's worth out of each kit and make it last!!           A bit like playing golf - if I'd paid to play a round of golf I'd want to get good value and play as many strokes as possible!

Anyway - thanks for looking in good people - your interest is greatly appreciated.

This is from the 1/48 Revell Tornado GR.4 "Farewell" boxing, which contains all of the bits for a GR.1. Just choose the appropriate spine, leave off the under-chin FLIR, and retain both nose cannon.

I wanted to arm the machine with Alarm missiles, just for something a bit different, but this limited the airframes I could model - as you can see I chose ZD746 AB "Alarm Belle."

Aftermarket stuff included Kits World transfers - not much choice available for a 1/48 Gulf Tornado.

The Alarms and Sidewinders are Brassin - lovely additions and far better than I deserve.

Cockpit uses the Eduard Look set but the only parts actually used were the instrument panels - certainly better than I could paint.

Seats are CMK, ladder is by LP models.

Background additions are Flightpath.

WIP is here.

Anyway - enough prevarication - I suppose pictures are expected........

Thanks for taking the time to look - and thanks to everybody who followed the build in progress, and tolerated my ramblings.

Please feel free to comment / advise / make suggestions - all comments and questions welcomed.

Next problem is to decide what to build next.......help!        I can't decide.  :worry:

Choice is all 1/48 - Italeri Hawk T1 (It has to be black!), Airfix Lightning F.6, Kinetic Sea Harrier FRS.1 or Airfix Canberra PR.9

That's the choice cos that's what I have in my stash.

Maybe I'll have to let Colin decide for me. :analintruder:

Best to all.

Keep Calm and mangle plastic!

Is that F731s I see either side of the houchin. You're an attention to detail nut and it's really paid off, wherever I look I see wonderful memories. The modelling is spot on as well, in a word "Mint".

Fabulous result! Always had a soft spot for the Gulf War Tornados and this might be one of the best looking I've ever seen!

Seconded!

Also the dessert color Italian IDS ones are great    but way less documented and build...

5 Mk.83s make an interesting load out as well.... just saying 😉

Tasty little diorama and a nice build.

Thanks. I tried new things doing this - like the intake and exhaust FOD covers. Fairly pleased overall.

Thanks - I really wanted something a bit different for this build, instead of the usual Paveways. I'm saving that for the Airfix Buccaneer S.2B when it's released.

What a stunning model. Your investment in time has been rewarded in spades!

Thanks - it took about 18 months but that's mainly because I'm lazy!!

Stunning build DR. An amazing model, pretty in pink!!

Thanks FB.  I'm going for the pink Buccaneer as soon as it's released!

Loved your Red Arrows Lightning by the way.

F731s???? I thought they were beer tabs or bookie slips!  Thanks for your generous words - appreciated.

Terrific work Dr Quack.  I found that the Revell kit is one that fights every step of the build so well done getting such an excellent result out of it.

Thank you - I benefited from reading several previous builds here on BM.     Now that it's built, I could probably do a neater job if I built it again - part of the fun is that I'm always learning.

Thanks for your generous comment - yes, I've got a soft spot for the RAF pink era too.

Agree totally.  If only there was time to build everything of interest!

Funny you mention those. I recently read about Operazione Locusta and came across photos of Italian Tornadoes that took part in it. The loadouts were interesting. One had a buddy refueling pod mounted under the fuselage, others what seemed to be JP223 anti runway munition dispensers. Sadly, I didn't find that many pictures of them on the web.

Well despite the trials and tribulations she's turned out a beauty.

Thanks Alistair - appreciate your kind words, and thanks for following the build.

Still can't decide what to build next so might take a short break from the dangers of sharp instruments and solvent fumes.....

Well I had a fevered dream visit from Colin, not your one but this one sounded a lot like Andy Secombe.

He thinks the Canberra would be a cracking choice.

Of course in a purely selfish way I wouldn't be adverse to that one.

Asking for a friend you understand.

Take a break, enjoy yourself and come back refreshed.

Cheers,

Alistair
