Here's my (first?) entry for this GB

2023-05-13-21-22-55.jpg

It's a gift set with a Sea King included

Unfortunately, my chopper isn't big enough to fit in here, so I'll put it away and find somewhere else to stick it later ......

I do have another one available which is large enough, so i may get it out at some point. Let me know if you want to see it

Sprues in a bag

2023-05-13-21-24-15.jpg

And (upside down) instructions and decals. Maybe this boxing was for south of the equator?

I wonder if I can get a set the right way up from Airifx?

Welcome along with an interesting subject and I think our first boat.

I was wondering when we'd see one of Airfix's lovely 1/72nd boats.

That is/was a pretty impressive combo set, I haven't seen that one before. Once you do complete the Seaking it'd make a great Rescue diorama.

Good luck with the build. hopefully it'll be smooth sailing. :D

Those instructions look perfectly ok to me!!  😆

I tried to get some right way up instructions but Airfix Spares told me they only had back to front ones left in stock....

Looks like a fun build - does it have crew?

I started one of these recently and have it about 50% complete. Hoping your build will inspire me to finish mine!!

Nothing more to report

she's started....well sort of!

What? You want me to assemble it as well??

Oh, allright then

Here's what I managed to do this week

Separated the hull parts from the sprues

2023-08-08-12-35-13.jpg

Bet you thought I was going to finish there, but I kept going

Test fitting with the hull parts taped together

2023-08-13-13-45-26.jpg

And sticking together in progress

2023-08-13-14-08-45.jpg

It's a little bit off on this side, but nothing drastic

2023-08-13-14-39-09.jpg

And complete

2023-08-13-17-24-09.jpg

The joints will need a bit of work but they're not too bad

2023-08-13-17-25-04.jpg

2023-08-13-17-25-28.jpg

And te deck dry fitted

2023-08-13-17-25-59.jpg

That's OK

a wee bit unusual for an Airfix model to have gaps like that! At least it'll be simple to sort out, nice to see the glue has been used! :D

I think those were operator error

Anyway, just to prove I ain'tn't dead yet

Dryfitting of some of the major stuctural elements happened

2023-09-17-11-22-26.jpg

And cleanup of the internals

2023-09-17-11-22-30.jpg

2023-09-17-11-38-04.jpg

2023-09-17-13-26-34.jpg

And eventually, primer ................

followed by white paint which was then masked for the stripe

2023-10-08-13-07-49.jpg

More to follow soon(ish)

The first paint is on

Red

2023-10-14-19-09-38.jpg

Then blue
2023-10-15-12-35-30.jpg

then black

2023-10-15-17-05-23.jpg

Now I can get started on the deck

Need to get a shift on though

3 Weeks later ain't exactly "getting a shift on" but I've not been totally idle, honest

The deck was given a lick of paint

2023-10-21-15-18-00.jpg

The I split the parts for individual colouring-in

It took ages, since the parts are just randomly located on the frames

2023-10-28-16-23-27.jpg

Some of the larger parts painted for the insides

2023-10-29-15-57-15.jpg

And I finally started slapping bits togther

2023-11-05-13-23-43.jpg

Then more

2023-11-05-13-35-17.jpg

It's coming together. the front is only dry-fitted here
2023-11-05-14-32-25.jpg

Back wall

2023-11-05-14-49-26.jpg

Front and sides

2023-11-05-15-15-53.jpg

And roof

2023-11-05-16-07-14.jpg

And that's where I got to when I finished up today

Looking back at the pics, I realised I've left the masking in place on the window of the inner hatch

Ah well, it'll never be seen anyway

More soon(ish)

Peter, I’m not seeing any of your pictures since the start! What image host are you using please? Admittedly I’m in Turkey at the moment but that shouldn’t make any difference to me seeing them.

Hmmm, it might! I have trouble viewing some pictures if my McAfee VPN is turned on. Could be that certain hosing sites will only allow UK access. Just a guess!

This is strange

The images are hosted on Postimage, and all the security settings look OK

Maybe it's location or device. I know some image hosting sites are blocked at work by the corporate firewalls

Ok Peter, back home on Thursday so we’ll see what happens then, but I seem to recall earlier difficulties too. The internet is a strange beast though, I couldn’t see my own website for ages ( www.ordinarycrew.co.uk ) and spent hours on the phone, then suddenly all’s well!

Very good progess on the Severn class lifeboat. If I remember correctly the decals are rather flimsy and weedy. I had very little luck with mine and the process was a bit of a chore. Are you using the same decals or do you have some good aftermarket quality decals? 👍🤔

Back home and seeing everything clearly now Peter! What a fascinating build. Do you think you’ll make it with our lovely month’s extension?

I may just manage it

Just to prove there are still signs of life, I managed to get the suoerstructure primed

2023-11-19-11-25-28.jpg

Most of the painting is the blue, orange and grey. All the smaller parts are already done

I need to attach some of the fittings before continuing

Thanks everyone

More progress, we have (some more) colour

Masked for orange

2023-11-26-15-16-58.jpg

And orange applied
2023-11-26-15-51-30.jpg

It would have been better on a white prime rater than grey, but it's too late to do anything about that now

Next, mask up for the blue on the superstructure

More soon(ish)

Looks very good to me Peter, I'm not sure the colour of the primer is that important....in fact white may have given too "bright" a finish.  Looking forward to more soon(ish).

Thanks @galgos

Finally some more progress

Blue applied to the superstructure

I also sprayed orange on some parts I missed earlier

2023-12-07-13-58-05.jpg

Then masking removed
2023-12-07-14-43-53.jpg

It'll do

Then

More masking, this time for the window surrounds
2023-12-07-17-00-42.jpg

Might just make it

Ah masking, the bane of a modeller's life!  But you're getting there Peter, well done!
