I had this conversion out last night as a friend was asking what it was like. After looking it over a bit more, I realized it's a very straightforward conversion so I think this will be my subject for the GB.

We reviewed these when they first came out, and they're very impressive, both in terms of fit, but also in the way the detail on the new parts matches that of the kit

I was impressed by that as well. So much so that I just ordered the Seahawk.

Oh WOW!!!!

I haven't seen this con version kit before, but I want one!!! I have built the Heritage 1/48th version which is not a bad conversion kit, but a 1/32nd beast!!

Good luck with the build, I can't wait to see this one started.

...apart from the fact that the nose is built on the twist. :owww: If you look at it from the front, the intake on top-dead-centre isn't.  Unless it was just mine, of course  That's why I was so happy when Halberd released theirs, as I knew it would be much better :yahoo:

Here's some of the main components to the conversion.

The very refined engraved panel lines Mike was mentioning

Tip tanks.

I think you can pre-order them. I had to do that for the Seahawk.

If he comes out with an F2G Corsair conversion, I'll be up for one in a heartbeat.

to be perfectly honest, I won't be too upset if the Enforcer conversion does go, as I have a few Pre-orders in at the moment.

An AJ-37 Viggen from JetMADS (will be my 3rd 1/32nd Viggen...and yes I have a problem), plus I have the new Zoukei-Muae Fw-190A-4 on order as well.

But with me I never know what'll popo into the stash next!  :D

I know what that's like. On a whim ,I've just ordered the new Andy's Tiger 1.  Oh boy, that'll be a big one.

  • 2 weeks later...

With the GB now underway, I took a closer look at the fuselage and started the cleanup. There's very little of the latter which is great. Most of it is confined to the lower fuselage seam. The upper seam is just about perfect.

Some around the cockpit opening.

Here's the lower seam.

After removing the tape that was used to hold the fuselage together from the factory, I noticed that there are locator pins moulded in.  Not something you normally see on a resin kit.

Here's the donor kit.

PXL_20230520_164039111-L.jpg

Thankfully I was able to get it on sale. I think you can use either this or the D/K version of the kit. Muck of it will get left in the box.

First thing I did is start modifying the wing. This is where the most changes will happen. The centre section where the belly intake normally goes needs some bits removed.

Out of the box:

Modded to fit.

Witham but more finessing, the resin insert fits nicely.

PXL_20230521_171620112-L.jpg

I need to remove it from it's pour block then I'll be gluing it in place.

The wingtips have to be removed next but you just follow the existing panel line. I used a scriber for this and it first one was pretty quick. At least it would have been except for my mobile carpet monster.

Here's the tip removed.

off to a great start I see, gee that resin moulding is nice!

I've not seen locating pins on resin models before either, everything looks super easy to clean up.

Temptation has been removed, the Piper Enforcer isn't in stock at the moment......but unfortunately it's only a matter of time before I give into temptation!

Another fine subject.

I'll never be able to fathom how modellers can share their space with cats 😂

Update: I saw they do a Piper Enforcer for the Revell kit, so I just dived in, see @trickyrich you're not the only one with zero resistance to temptation...😂😂😂

I've done a bit more on the Mustang. I started on the main gear bay. I was a bit surprised by the number of ejector pin marks. I filled them in with Mr Surfacer and will clean them up once it's dry.

Here's a nice comparison of the Halberd fuselage with the kit one.

PXL_20230527_013638224-L.jpg

Adding in the kit cockpit side panels show them to be a perfect fit to the resin fuselage.

PXL_20230527_014401847-L.jpg

A dry fit with the replacement floor. The fit is truly exemplary.

PXL_20230528_033837481.MP-L.jpg

With just some tape holding things together.

PXL_20230528_034029415-L.jpg

The kit tail fit is great too. Again, just some tape holding things together.

This combination of quality kit and quality conversion looks like it will be even better than the sum of its parts .

With that massive nose is there any chance it could be nose heavy?

Agree with @Mottlemaster, looks like complementary quality which is a recipe for success 👍

Would be the first case I've seen of adding tail weight!

Oooo that does look really nice, great to see how much care was taken to ensure everything would fit with the donor kit.

I can see my resistance dropping with each update!!! 🙄
