Popular Post mark.au
Having grown up in Fareham, HMS Daedalus in Lee-on-Solent was close enough for me to be have become quite familiar with the sight of the Royal Navy SAR Wessex’s doing their thing in the Solent. Building this for the Salty Sea Dog helped recall some fond memories. The WIP can be found here; The Coles Notes version is that I built this mostly out of the box with the Eduard PE set for the exterior. I used most, but not all of the PE. The markings are all painted except for the stencils. The paint itself is artist acrylic mixed as required and sprayed, thinned with Windex. The main rotor was simply placed on its shaft and consequently moved a little during the photo shoot - in some of the pics it appears tilted very much forward. This is the second of these I’ve built and it was as enjoyable as the first. It’s quite possible I’ll build a camo version one day to go with this, the and the overall green one I built for the Falklands Anniversary last year. The finish pics... Thanks for looking. Cheers. 80
Darwinism
Great work Mark and a terrific finish. I remember seeing these growing up too but in my case they were generally the yellow RAF HAR. 2 version. Andy

Alpha Delta 210
Stunning result. Without doubt, one of the finest Wessex models I have seen! 1
Lord Riot
Superb! This looks fantastic, I love those orange and blue RN Rescue colours. I still can’t decide whether to build mine in these markings, or all yellow or grey/green camo! I think I need more Wessexes.
Keeff
Lovely job! 👌 I like the 'sag' of the rotor blades .... did you add this? Keith 😁

Dunny
Mark, That's a stunning crisp finish of this iconic aircraft. I remember a trip in an RAF SAR Wessex in the mid-eighties when I was in the cadets. Lovely work, Cheers, Roger 1
Donald
Great looking kit. These were a common sight around the coast back in the day. I remember the hoo-ha when the MOD decided to take away our local yellow Wessex.

There’s a few of us, eh. Funny how the ordinary becomes iconic with time. 5 hours ago, Vince1159 said: What a beauty ..... It’s a nice touch by Italeri. 4 hours ago, Watto said: Very nice, really smart paint job. For such a simple job it’s remarkable how much trouble it gave me! 2 hours ago, Dunny said: Mark, That's a stunning crisp finish of this iconic aircraft. I take it that you’re from the old country then? 2 hours ago, Donald said: Great looking kit. These were a common sight around the coast back in the day. Jonners
That looks the absolute business, Mark, and brings back some pleasant memories. I too remember watching RN SAR Wessexes in this colour scheme carrying out lifeboat training, particularly with the St Ives lifeboat during childhood summer holidays. Later I managed a few flights in RAF Wessexes various, both up front and down the back (and even fast roping out of one) in a variety of airframes from 72 Sqn, SARTU and 2FTS, but I missed out on flying the Wessex 'properly' by two Shawbury courses...which didn't really bother me as I got to train on the Bell 412 instead. Happy days. That's a really nice model - great result. Jon

Farmerboy
Sometimes a model just looks the dogs ………. The paint work is superb and the fact you painted the main markings elevates the model to a very high standard, Great job!
Winded Penguin
My father was a flight instructor on these when I was a kid. Fond memories and a great result there 👍
Tiger331
Great model. I seem to have followed the venerable Wessex around all my life. Earliest memories were 103 & 84 Squadron examples in Singapore and Cyprus respectively and then the HU.5s in Malta. I still have vivid memories of walking along one of the cliff paths on the Isle of Wight in the late 1970s when we were on a family visit home and one of these examples from Lee-on-Solent literally popped up at eye level having just completed a cliff face winch practice. The cliff obviously shielded the noise of the engine and rotors. Happy days. Well Done, Sir !
