Austin K2/Y Ambulance in Caunter Scheme (Airfix 1:35 scale)

Recommended Posts

Here I present my go at the Airfix K2/Y Ambulance. In a rush of blood to the head I decided to attempt the Caunter Scheme, which I replicated using Tamiya mixes for the Slate and Silver-grey, and Vallejo Model Air Portland Stone. The interior rear cabin was painted with Italeri Acryl Middle Stone, which I have since discovered is not period correct. Weathering was with various Vallejo Model Washes. As always brush painted. A reasonably straight forward build, however rather a lot of ejector pin marks and a few fit issues. Build log can be found here:

And finally, it’s not a Carlsberg glass, but it’s close enough in shape, and my footy team had a very good win last night.

Thanks for looking.

That is a good looking Ambulance. The colours look good, including the interior. The weathering is excellent, a nice amount of wear and used look. 👍

Very nicely done Simon,

I have the Gecko version which I was going to do in the plain old green scheme but now I've seen how good yours looks in the Caunter I think I may have to have a change of plan.

This thing looks briljant! The color, the way the light catches the top. It's just stunning. Everything about this is just awesome!.

And the model looks great too!

Would like to see that, although it’s a lot of masking…

Great result.   Weathering spot on.   I did the Ice Cold version.

I think if I did another one, that would be my choice as well.

Thanks Ian. I actually added a thin layer of diluted Italeri Acryl Sand to the lower parts of the vehicle, particularly the wheels, after the Matt varnish and it really gave me the “look” I was after.
