Enzo the Magnificent Posted June 13, 2023 Author Posted June 13, 2023 I give the can a jolly good shake. I then spray very thin coats... and lots of them. I also tend to lay the white down first, even if it is a minor part of the colour scheme. I find that spraying it against masking tends to build up an unsightly edge. 1

I sometimes have problems with paint lifting under masking tape. I managed to reduce the chances of that happening by priming with Autotek grey plastic car primer from a rattle can. It's important to note that Autotek produce a "grey primer" and a "grey plastic primer". The word "plastic" is important as the ordinary grey primer really doesn't like to be masked. However, use of the plastic primer didn't eliminate the paint lifting entirely. I found that Autotek matt lacquer holds to the plastic very securely indeed as it is a little "hotter" than the primer. So I put down a coat of lacquer to "key" the plastic and follow it up with the grey plastic primer. This has all but eliminated the problem. Strictly speaking, the lacquer is the actual primer and the grey coat just provides a nice smooth surface which shows any imperfections. 4 1
Enzo the Magnificent Posted June 23, 2023 Author Posted June 23, 2023 Uppersurfaces sprayed with Xtracrylx XA1003 Medium Sea Grey. The undersurfaces were masked and sprayed with Tamiya XF-69 NATO black. Colour schemes don't some much easier than this. Decals applied. 6
Enzo the Magnificent Posted June 23, 2023 Author Posted June 23, 2023 On the PR aircraft, I sprayed the black bands with Tamiya XF-6 NATO Black. I have previously used Xtracylix PRU blue for the main collour in aircraft like this but I have come to believe that it is somewaht dark. This time I used Lifecolor UA-621. Decals applied. The Airfix sheet does not provide the "keep off" markings over the radiators. This may well be accurate for this aircraft, but I feel that a Mosquito does not look "right" without them, so I applied some from a decals sheet in the spares box. This is a very smart looking scheme. 12
