Recommended Posts

Well if we are going out of our comfort zone, let's go for the manufacturer as well as the subject.

So here's my victim of choice an Omega models BM-13 Katusha

I like the Soviet era box art, are you going to tease us with the contents?

Welcome to the Pleasuredome.

Nice one Pat I just picked up the cargo version of this kit re-released by ICM in fact the pair of trucks I'm building for the carrier GB are Omega originals and very nice they are.

In the interests of making you feel as far out of your comfort zone as possible, I think you should copy the box top as a diorama. I'll let you off actual firing rockets though.

Happy to help,

Tony.

You're far too kind there, Tony. I'd have expected fully working rockets, radio control, lighting, AND a suitable target with realistic explosion effects 🤣

You can get away with a bit of tinted clear stretched sprue and cotton wool:

... but obviously pyrotechnics would get you bonus points :wicked:

If all else fails perhaps you can play us a tune on your "Stalin Organ"😆

Should be interesting anyway.

A good start, what is the plastic like? Some gghe parts look quite fragile if it is too brittle

Without wishing to temp fate, yes it is brittle but so far I've only used the black coloured parts, which seem to need superglue to stick it, as liquid poly doesn't work

The majority of the parts are made of a green plastic which I hope will be more normal ! :fingerscrossed:

Bit more done on this one, now the "Big in Japan GB" has finished

16889873123487243037363201060312

The instructions are a little vague if I'm honest but I think if all goes according to plan the rocket platform will both turn and pivot for elevation when finished.

Of course if it doesn't then it's entirely the kits fault obviously

Cheers Pat

Work continues, but the chassis seems too short, ie the cab and the rear load bed don't fit within the space provided.

Time for some improvisation,  I filed the inner wheel arches / fuel tanks so I could move the rear load bed back. Then removed some parts and moved them back to make more space. I've even filed off the panel ribs on the back of the crew cab !

Here's my handiwork on the wheel arches / fuel tanks

Here's all the big bits, time to try and get it all to fit on the chassis

@AdrianMF you've got a lot to bleeding answer for !

Looks very fiddly to me, which I suppose is the point of the sadomasochistic theme of this group build. Still, you are wrestling it into shape, no doubt aided by numerous cold showers, wearing of hair shirts etc. With the current state of my wrist, any modelling is not in my comfort zone, but the physio says to keep it moving (and no smutty sniggering at the back), and so pressing on.
