Airfix 1/600 HMS Ark Royal + PE + crew - Finished

Recommended Posts

Gidday @AdrianMF, congrats on your completion. I think you've done a superb job with this, and you've added so much detail that I didn't even know about when I did mine OOB, many years ago. Due to the length of ships they can sometimes be difficult to photograph, focus-wise. For angled shots such as your 8th, 9th and 10th photos in the post above I physically back away a bit and then zoom in, it brings more of the ship into the depth-of-field. But that's with a camera, I don't know how that works with a phone.

You may have been out of your comfort zone with this but we'd never know it, seeing the result. Modeling is meant to be fun, and if you've decided you don't want to do another ship then this makes a very impressive swan-song.

       Regards, Jeff.

Amazing work. It's a whole world you got there. Love the single fellow on deck watching a plane come up the elevator. The details are wonderful... boats, cranes. The weathering of the ship hull.

I may join the FAA GB later this year to build some 1/600 Fulmars and Swordfishes with some deck crew, because I feel a bit guilty about having all those planes and figures left over...

I hope you do. I'd love to see this microcosm with more added to it. It's the sort of thing that could grow indefinitely.

Thoroughly enjoyed this build and thread and a properly impressive result (never really in doubt).

Not really sure it belonged in this GB though Adrian… as you seem pretty comfortable building anything.!

As a non-maritime modeller, I enjoy seeing ships built, and I enjoy seeing models of ships close up. They’re the sort of thing you can gaze at and keep seeing new details.

I think you’ve done a splendid job, out of your comfort zone. The last batch of photos show it off well.

That really does look great, Adrian, all the details really make it. I've yet to tackle a ship (but probably will eventually), but I'm also in awe of the ship-building modeller. There's a couple of very talented maritime guys at my model club, one of them recently completed a build of one of the two new UK carriers (I can't actually remember which ship it was sadly), totally scratch built in 1/350 using photos from the web! It's absolutely stunning and destined for the competition area at Telford

Bravo that man.  Reading your final post full of statistics and info about AR made me uncomfortable enough without even building anything so I’d hate to have been your nerves during this one. 😆

Brilliant end result and great to notice that the line is back!!!! Yay. 🙌
