MPM FW189A-1 ***Finished***

Recommended Posts

That's a bold choice of colour-scheme Walter and will look stunning once done.

Good Start and nice scheme. It will be interesting to see how the MPM kit goes together. I waited until the GWH kit was issued before I bought one.

Thanks Mick.

Well since you asked! When I looked around the sprues the parts were nicely  mouled and very nice detail I thought it was going to be a pleasant build. Unfortunately parts are not numbered on the sprue I constantly go back to the sprue map, so muchntime is wasted.

This isn't a kit for the novice builder, the instructions don't show how the parts go together (aka 1970's style) so I'm doing a lot of dry fitting and checking sub assemblies go together before glueing. That's fine by me it just require more care and patience.

Having said that I think it will cone together alright.

Dry fitting all the elements as there are so many contact points to glue I want to see the best way to approach it in order get the best fit.

At this point it looks like these are the steps I will follow

1. Fix upper wing to engine/tail boom x2

2  Fix lower fuselage to upper wing x2

3. Fix lower wing to upper wing

4. Drop in the cockpit and fix to wing roots and adjust dihedral,  this should leave no gaps, fingers crossed.

Will there be many gaps to fettle during the main assembly Walter?

Wings and booms have gone together fine the cockpit tub will drop in right towards the end, I hope while I adjust the dihedral I can close the wing root, will have to wait and see.

I'll be presenting it as the box art.

No idea how you will do that paint work, so looking forward to being educated 🤔

Finished off masking the canopy. Ready to paint. Also added a raised rib line along the length of the tail booms as this isn't molded in the kit.

Nice paintwork. You look to have imparted enough modulation into both colours to give them interest without looking overdone and forced.

Thanks Col it's a long way from being finished though.  It's exactly the modulation I'm think about at this point. When I come to painting I always think about the stages a plane goes though by the time it's presented at a point in time when I decide portray it.

So based on that I'm going to surmise that this aircraft had some service history prior to getting the wellenmuster pattern applied.  So a little bit more on colour modulation and like you say not too much!

Almost finished the wellenmuster it's very difficult to get the scale just right I think I'm mostly there. Will leave it for a while and come back to touch up.

Nice result. That camouflage alone is a work of art and a worthwhile labour.
