However I think I used the wrong varnish on one occasion which went patchy and took ages to dry (is it a case of a water based paint with a non-water based varnish?) and am wondering of any of you have recommendations for a good gloss, satin and matt varnish I can use with these paints. Casey Posted March 23, 2023 Share Posted March 23, 2023 (edited) Make sure the paint underneath is not only dry but cured - it needs couple of days. Mentioned XF-86 is great when paint is cured fully. I personally prefer to use Liquitex varnishes, they work great for me and are dead cheap.
