Nice work Dave, looks like you have sorted the seam lines and done your usual top work on the weapons.

🇺🇦

Cheers Craig, hopefully a coat of primer doesn't reveal too many nightmares with the seams!

Looking good dave, the aims look ace

Thanks mate!

Primer went on this morning and pleased to report all the seams look to have behaved! Once set, I fired on a rough, ok really rough, pre-shade. I fully sprayed the rudder, windscreen frame and radome as these are finished black and will mask off once set.

A couple of questions that I haven't been able to find definitive answers for;

1. Were the 'Y' racks for the missiles white or grey?

2. Were the leading edges of the wings in Corogard?

More soon

The missile racks were indeed white and yes the leading edges are in Corogard.

Looking good Dave.

Hope everyone had a pleasant Coronation weekend! A fair few pints were had myself, luckily I was right as rain this morning so I was able to commence painting.

After masking up the radome and rudder, on went a lick of white. A few light coats needed but we're looking good:

Undercarriage doors are also nearly done, forgot to take a picture though! One thing I nearly missed in the instructions, the upper U/C doors are half white and half gull grey, glad I caught it . VF-162 the front part of the wing box (if that's what it's called) painted yellow:

Will get all that masked up and hopefully get the Light Gull Grey on this week. In the meantime, I found the below website, dedicated to VF-162.

Some nice shots from the '65 and '66 cruises.

More soon.

Nice work Dave, looks like you get on with white paint a lot better than I do!

Cheers Craig. I used to have trouble getting coverage, especially with acrylic, but find the MRP stuff hard to get wrong!

More done after the last few days and we're getting there! All areas that required it, were masked up and then the Light Gull Grey went on. I found it tricky to determine if the demarcation line was soft or hard, so went with the latter. Once set, I detailed the ECM blister on the tail, sprayed the metallic panels at the stabiliser join and finished the exhaust area. This will be detailed further with washes etc after decals go on.

A few areas need a little tidy up, mainly around the tail. There's a little overspray on the rudder, but not too concerned as there's a full decal that goes, thus hiding any nasties! I added some basic detailing to the main undercarriage well:

A bit of a wash will liven it up, though not much will be seen once the doors are on! The leading edges of the wings were first sprayed in Tamiya XF-57 then over sprayed with MRP silver to replicate the Corogard. Wing tip lights also done.

Some further research revealed the canopy frame and bulkhead were flat black, as opposed to the grey Hasegawa suggest.

So, kit part done, ready for the last of the etch:

Finally starting to look like something!

Hoping to get the tidy up done tomorrow before a final polish in preparation for gloss and decals.

Doesn’t look like much clean up required  - this is looking really tidy!

Cheers mate, just a few small areas needed seeing to!

Gloss coat also on, will let that cure for a couple of days then I'll make a start on the decals.

Nice shiny gloss coat, should help the decals go on nicely.

Fingers crossed! I polished the paint with a 12000 Micromesh pad prior to applying gloss, which seems to help!

Decals on. The Furball sheet is superb! I used some Mr Mark Softer to bed the decals in, especially so on the rudder and the 'stars 'n bars'. @modelling minion kindly sent me a set of black walkways for the fuselage and stabilisers as the examples provided in my kit are grey and not correct for a Hunters jet.

Snoopy riding the AIM-9 on the tail looks pretty cool!

Will get the decals sealed in with another coat of gloss tomorrow before starting the weathering with a panel wash.

Very nice work Dave, she looks fantastic.

The decals look like they have gone on very well including the walkways (to be fair the Hobby 2000 decals I have used have worked very well, its just a shame they made such a mess of the decals accuracy wise).

Looking really good with the decals on Dave, I always liked this scheme, especially with the Snoopy on a winder cartoon.

Thanks Bob! It is a nice scheme on the F-8, something different from all the red

Managed to get a light top coat of gloss on this morning so after a few hours curing time, I applied a Flory panel wash. Left for about an hour and excess removed. I was so pleased with the progress, I popped on the wing actuators followed by the exhaust; which promptly had to be removed as the pitot tube at the nose fell into the fuselage and straight out the backside, once I'd taken the exhaust out! Went through almost as quickly as a curry and half a dozen pints of Guinness (trust me, I know!). Anyway, disaster averted and all parts fixed to their correct positions. I also fitted the 'Y' racks but had a little issue with the port side in that there was a bit of a gap. Not the most pleasant but a cunning application of PPP, with the excess removed with a damp cotton bud, followed by some more wash cleaned it up nicely.

I also had to carefully remove part of the decal at the top of the vertical stabiliser that was covering the position light on each side. Wings and the rest of the sub assemblies were also given the same treatment with the wash.

I agree with Craig, it's looking very good with its wash on, popping out all the panel lines, I just hope my Micoscale decals go on as well as the Furball ones have.
