seadog Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 Finally finished, at least as far as it goes. It's been a difficult buildfor me, for several reasons. First, basically, I'm getting too old (74) for dealing with miniscule PE. For whatever reason, my fingerprints have sort of faded, and the feeling in my finger tips ain't what it was. I also have a feeling that the dose of covd I had in October has affected my concentration, whatever. I'm glad it's done. It has a case because I'm out of space, so it will have to live on an open shelf in my corner of the garage Anyway, Thanks for looking! Fraser 55 2
ArnoldAmbrose Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 Gidday Fraser, that's a beautiful model, portrayed in a rather unforgiving sea. Superb! 👍 Regards, Jeff.
RichieW Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 That is simply beautiful! I would never guess you were suffering from concentration and finger problems after seeing the photos. Richie
beefy66 Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 Great build and sea base there Fraser Cracking job. Stay Safe beefy
seadog Posted March 21, 2023 Author Posted March 21, 2023 Thanks all! Thinking about doing another car model - I've done a few. An antidote to all those nasty little PE bits! 1
JohnWS Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 Great job! A beautiful ship & I love that sea scape. John
theskits62 Posted March 22, 2023 Posted March 22, 2023 Thats a great piece of work and like others have said I also really like the seascape, very convincing.

The seascape is the only bit I enjoyed on this one. I paint seascapes and doing thisissort of a three dimensional version...
PF Naughton Posted March 22, 2023 Posted March 22, 2023 Hi, Your build looks great. I have long wished that someone would make some injection molded plastic kits of some of these and similar escort type vessels in a reasonable scale. PAt

PAt Thank you, Well, have to say that as far as it goes , resin kits have a lot less pieces and even with injection moulding, you'd probably want a reasonable amount of photo etch to bring it alive. Injection molded kits aren't all that much cheaper either. I'm guessing that when you say reasonable scale you mean larger? Revell do a flower class corvette in 1/144th and there's also one in 1/72nd. 1

Hi, I remember seeing the old Matchbox 1/72 scale kit way up on an upper shelf at a toy store when I was young, but could never afford it. A few years back when Revell re-released it I snatched up a copy but have been too afraid to start since my building skills are still not that great. As such I also ended up buying a copy of the 1/144 scale kit when they released that, but its also got me a little apprehensive. Fortunately I also think that I picked up a Mirage Hobbies 1/350 scale Flower class kit around the same time, so maybe I will start there first 😃
seadog Posted March 24, 2023 Author Posted March 24, 2023 Have fun! There's a WIP on the Micro Mer corvette on the forum.
Norseman 3:16 Posted March 24, 2023 Posted March 24, 2023 A superb build - both vessel and setting are stunning. Well done Sir! 1
robgizlu Posted March 26, 2023 Posted March 26, 2023 Fraser - that Sea is just terrific - I'm in awe that you've "sculpted" from wood. The water surface markings are just lovely as is the ship and the whole presentation. That to me does not suggest any lack of concentration or glove "neuropathy"! Congratulations Rob 1
robgizlu Posted March 26, 2023 Posted March 26, 2023 And BTW Fraser - do you mind me asking what colours you used for your sea as they are absolutley spot-on! Thanks Rob

Thanks Rob Of course. The colours are the same as I use in a painting involving the North Atlantic - cobalt blue, chrome oxide green, occasional touches of yellow - mixed in, and white, of course. Deep ocean is bluer, coastal greener, The water in the Solent is often a light slightly bluish green. Or is that a greenish blue. cerulean and raw sienna, maybe...+ 1
MRMRL Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 Very nice little ship you've got there, the sea Scape looks excellent - very convincing
Donald Posted March 30, 2023 Posted March 30, 2023 Nice to see this Castle-class so beautifully modelled on that fine base. I can almost smell the sea spray.
albergman Posted April 6, 2023 Posted April 6, 2023 Like everyone else I'm most impressed with your (to my eye) perfection of the sea. Not an easy subject to get right and to set the ship into it at a believable attitude is another skill. I'm guessing you have some first hand experience of being at sea? Wonderful modelling.
