Hello All, this is the 1/72 Arma Hobby Hurricane Mk IIc built from their Mk IIb/c Expert Set. I didn't use the kit etch as I managed to get the Eduard coloured etch for the cockpit really cheaply at a show. It doesn't really need anything more than just seat belts and an instrument panel if you opt to display the canopy open (you get two separate sliding canopies in the kit for open or closed options). The fit is superb throughout with just a tiny bit of filler needed at the join between the front of the upper wins and the fuselage. There is no filler used anywhere else on this model.

Lower colour is Mr Hobby's Medium Sea Grey with Tamiya Ocean Grey and Mr Hobby C361 RAF Green uppers. The green was freehanded over the ocean grey; all colours over a back base marbled with white. The kit stencil decals were used with the national roundels and the serials from the Max Decals 72002 set. These were exceptionally fragile and needed decal film to make them useable in any way at all as otherwise the just shattered. The underwing tricolour stripes are airbrushed. Unfortunately there is some silvering of the kit and Max decals despite laying them down over a very glossy finish and using Micro Set and Sol. Hey-ho.

The Arma Hobby kit is very, very impressive and I look forward to having a bash at one or more of their other kits.

That's  very nice. I love the Arma Hurricanes.

I know I'm obviously biased but the grey  green IAC scheme is IMHO  the best looking Hurricane camo. It's very 'tactical'

It's a pity about the Max decals. I've stashed quite a few. I hope  mine don't fall apart when I  come to use them.

The relative lack of weathering is appropriate because frankly they didn't fly much during the war.

Very nice indeed.

Good looking P-40 you have made.  I like the unique decals that make this stand out from other P-40 builds.  Thanks for sharing.

Hello! What a great job on this one...you really inspired me to get my own from the basic Hobbyboss kit and also I have the very same Max Decal set.

I just have a question for you: what are the FS or recommended paints to paint the the green/white/orange underwing bands? I will try to find the best mix but it would helpful as reference to start

Thank you

Max decals did some  research and put it up on their website on a PDF. 'Notes on Irish Air Corps colours'. They didn't specify FS numbers but they matched them to BS 381 267 Deep Chrome Green and BS 381 567 Apricot. So if you can find the equivalent in the FS colours you're on your way.

But why not use the decal stripes?

Thanks a lot for this information! Unfortunately, this decal set doesn't provide any of the stripes to save print area...

In fact, I forgot to mention that I won't use the decals for other aircraft included in the set, like the Lysander, Anson, Martinet, Dragon II, Magister Master, Hudson and Fairey Battle...so if someone is interested, I could gladly share them

Saludos

As a start point, I used the Tamiya Orange X-6 and Humbrol Gloss 2 for the underwing bands. Tamiya LP-51 Orange Lacquer is slightly darker than their X-2 and may be worth a test against the decal colour for comparison. Having used a plain white for most of my models I would be tempted to use Mr Hobby H-21 Off White or Tamiya LP-35 Insignia White lacquer in the future. The finish is slightly less stark and, I think, gives a better effect.

A very good question. The fit of the decal stripes is good, but they still need a bit of trimming which may have resulted in a poor job knowing how bad I am at trimming decals; and masking and painting was really simple so that's the route I took.

Just to say that Max 72002 was printed in 1996! The subjects on that sheet have been reprinted much later on Max7221 using a different printer and are altogether less fragile.

Oh, that the delightful MaxDecals were still available. I keep watching on ebay and hunting at shows, but they can be like the proverbial rocking horse poo.

Is fragility of the early MaxDecals a prevalent issue?  I have gathered most of the sheets over the past 20+ years, usually on trips home to Dublin.  They've been carefully stored since then, during my building hiatus.

Since I am about to embark on building rather than gathering, I was hoping these sheets would be usable.  I suppose I must become proficient in the use of decal film before I start working with my precious supply of markings!

I have heard encouraging news regarding the re-release of at least some of the Max sheets, so fingers crossed there.
