wieslaw_
Hi everyone. I would like to present you with a slightly shortened version of the progress report from the construction of my paper (and 3D printed) model of the IJN Fuso battleship in 1/200 scale. I will make a short introduction to bring you up to date. I started this model around January 2010, which was a long, long time ago. Unfortunately, every time I tried to return to this model, I always had some personal issues in my life. The hull was based on a cardboard model from Military Model No. 1-2/2007. Below are some photos of how I started and where I was at the beginning of 2022. Hull frames: After a lot of work, I finally got a base shape: Wooden deck: Hull ready for painting: Hull painted: Edited April 12, 2023 by wieslaw_ 17

wieslaw_
I'm still in the process of making the funnel superstructure. I did come across a small problem with a template that was too short, but I've managed to solve it. To make the "vents" I used Mr Halinski's phenomenal set of photo-etched parts dedicated to this model. Funnel steam and smoke pipes. I made them in 3D based on Fuso's monograph from the Anatomy of the Ship by Mr Janusz Skulski. The pipes themselves could've been made from some wire but I didn't have any at that time. Next, I managed to make the platforms for the searchlights, and I tested the railing templates I had printed. I think that they passed the test. To make it more detailed, I added overlay covers with rivets on them. Let's say it's just a small experiment of mine that should give results when it comes to the wash at the end. I still have to do two more small platforms on the sides of the funnel and two radar antennas. All the elements of the front platform: Assembled platform: Railing template: All the parts in place without glueing: Painted platforms: Edited April 12, 2023 by wieslaw_ 18

I saved the pagoda for last. BTW sorry guys for my english but I'm not a native speaker. Edited April 12, 2023 by wieslaw_ 23
Zoran Srb
This is very, very, very, VERY good !!! Sorry it took you that long to get this far, but, if I may say so, it's worth it. I just hope that you will find strength/will/time to complete it soon, so we can see her done... I've made Yamashiro in 350th scale, but this is monster!!!! Hope to see more from you soon, cheers !!!

No, me neither, I speak Australian. 😁 That model has exquisite detail and superb workmanship. (In other words, it is very good). This may have taken you a long time up to now but the results are worth it. Hopefully you can get more done soon. Regards, Jeff. 1

Thanks guys, I'm glad you like it. To be honest in the first post you can see the shape of the model that has been maintained since 2010. Like US Iowa class battleships, my Fuso was "preserved" and lay down in the storage wrapped in plastic, waiting for a better times. Everything else from the next posts it's a last year progress, so I think I've got the right flow now. Thanks again
Rumblestripe
Looking very good. Honestly as a non-Maritime modeller I hold you guys in the highest regard and come here for inspiration. This is inspirational modelling and a fascinating fusion of several techniques.

Micha_Pol
Not a fan of IJN ships (or any post-WWI ships) visually, but the build looks tremendously good, the funnel assemply alone is unbeliavable. I am sure this will end up a masterpiece,
wieslaw_
I want to show that something is going on in the Fuso build, trying to "close" the aft deck. Edited August 20, 2023 by wieslaw_

theskits62
The level of detail you are achieving here is amazing, its really hard to believe that the main elements are card. Even though its an odd looking ship i've always loved the menacing look of her. Can't wait to see what you do with the main pagoda !!
