started on the chassis of the tractor unit today, a couple of hours work with various bits. The big test is yet to come when I start fitting engine, gear box and other bits.

This is really looking good.   It seems the kit provides you with enough detail to keep the build interesting, but not so much as to send you into the land of tedium!  Looking forward to seeing the tractor come together as I've always liked the look of this rig.

At one point I was considering building one of these as a six wheel drive - the idea that the front end is already set up with a three link suspension and it might adapt into a four link with a solid drive axle!

Cheers

thanks Nick,

there are plenty of bits on the tractor unit to keep you busy, there are still loads of sub builds of gearing etc for the winch still to add. with your scratch building skill you will have no problems with any alterations.

It’s starting to look rather large. I’ve borrowed a book by Military Trucks Archive about the Scammell Pioneer, it’s really good source of information with photos and line drawings. The only thing I’m struggling with is the winch rope from the tractor unit and where it goes on the trailer.

Not much done this weekend, I’ve got the engine painted I used XF-14 for the blue. I’ve popped them both together to get an idea of size and she’s coming in at 50cm. I thought I’d pop a tank* to see the scale of the project, I’ve been  on the back to I’ve also been on a few Facebook forums and think I’ve sussed the tow rope arrangement.

I got a little side tracked. I received a telephone call last week asking if I could paint some capbadges, as the ones that had been ordered were bronze colour as apposed to a gold colour. If you saw any of the Kings Coronation 31 Royal Artillery capbadges on parade we’re painted by my fair hand.

back to the Scammell, it’s got to that point I needed to start applying some paint.

Cheers Colin,

it certainly is, I had planned to build her as part of our GB until I read the rules properly. I may get around to building the her later on in the year. for now its number 7 in the stash.

not a lot to show for a couple of hours at the bench. Bit of etch and a green trailer, I decided to spray the trailer green as a base coat using the hairspray method to rub away the Portland stone to look a bit worn.

Not posted for a while, I’ve forgot to take pictures. I’ve been chipping away at the build, I’ve been painting interiors and fitting engines and other drive shafts.

I’ve pretty much have empty sprues which means I’ve got to stop faffing about and put it all together.

There's something about the pugly lines of this truck that I just like. Looking really good.

And congrats on the cap badges!

thanks Thom216,

I have to say it’s growing on me, not normally a wheeled vehicle builder.

that’s the cab stuck down, engine and exhaust in place. Steering column to fit next plus some head lamps, then she’ll be ready for some painting.

I will definitely have her finished but not fully finished as the various cables will be added on the Desert GB.

got the trailer looking where I wanted it to be. I used Vallejo chipping fluid followed by a top coat of life colour Portland stone. I’ve also started to weather the wheels with MIG North African Dust.

the building is pretty much done just a few little bits to add.

What does PE stand for?

Guessing P=paint?

E = Exterior?

It stands for photo etch, as in the metal parts that come with some models.

I’ll definitely have a gallery entry on Sunday JeroenS.

to break up the Portland stone, this scheme was an option on the art work. It may not be 100% accurate for the scene I’m going to depict, as a wise man once said to me ‘never let the truth get in the way or a good story’.
