1/72 Airkits Grokhovsky G-37

I adore obscure, unknown, weird looking planes. G-37 fits the picture perfectly.

The idea was that a "carrier" plane would carry the load in different detachable pods - cargo, passenger, ambulance etc.  

The plane was built in 1933 and been in testing until 1936

The livery is quite complex, fortunately the kit provides paining masks:

Indeed. I had never heard of this one before. It will make for an interesting build.

Perhaps it was way ahead of its time- can imagine it being a carrier for a pallet or pod system of cargo handling....Back to the Future time!

The build was stale for some while, I was really scared to start painting it as the scheme is maybe one of the most difficult to reproduce. Add corrugated skin. Besides, the masks provided with the kit have shrunk and no longer accurate so there is a lot of manual masking. Moving slowly, area by area

There some things that usually frighten people but actually quite easy to do. One of such things are spoked wheels. It took me less than an hour to make a pair

 

The most tricky thing is to install a spindle after first two pairs of spokes are drawn

Surely, this is THE most difficult scheme I have ever painted. A lot of curved shapes on corrugated skin. Add poor resin adhesion. The kit is supplied with masks but they are not of great help as they shrunk, either because of age or because of inappropriate storage. 
There is a decal for the tail star but I decided to mask and paint it too 

 

 

The twin guns in the kit are quite delicate, I added some etched parts from the vaults

 

The plane is mostly ready, time to deal with cargo/passenger gondola
