Tomas Enerdal
I was looking at sprue pics and instructions on Scalemates, for the new 1/48 Venom FB.4 from Mikro-Mir. The instrument panel in the kit looks just like pics from the net, like here. Then I noticed that a quite different version was seen in Pilots notes, here. The latter looks very similar to the panel of a Vampire, here. The differences are obvious, did several versions exist? Or, as I suspect, the first one shows the panel as license built in Switzerland? If so, builders of the new Venom kit should perhaps consider replacing the kit panel with an aftermarket Vampire instrument panel? Can someone help clarify this? k5054nz
I can only speak to the Swiss examples as they're the only ones I've seen (click on the photos to see more): Edited March 9 by k5054nz
neilh
May be me, but I have to admit I am not seeing a huge difference between the three photos. The larger one of the Swiss Venom is taken off centre so the " blind " flying panel looks to be over to the left of the cockpit but I think is actually central just as in the shots of the Venom and Vampire. The group of instruments to the right sidewall are hidden by the upper side of the cockpit. I would assume the Swiss Venoms will have some extra upgrades over the Earlier RAF ones as they remained in service for longer and seem to be the bulk of the ones still flying. Tomas Enerdal
This one shows a "Swiss" panel more directly from the front here. (sorry for not being able to insert pic from URL, there must be some setting in my computer. I know how to) Edited March 10 by Tomas Enerdal
Tomas Enerdal
Zac, Thanks for the great pics! Several will become very useful for modeling purposes, and I just love the tractor. I drove a grey one a lot in my youth.. They were called "grållan" in Sweden, may be translated to "the grey one" Edited March 10 by Tomas Enerdal

Tomas Enerdal
Wow! Both these last drawings looks exactly as a pic from the pilots notes, 2nd ed. With that slight enlarging of the upper right corner of the blind flying panel. If one wants to reproduce this an AM Vampire panel seems to be the best way to do it. Or wait for the proper AM Venom panel that will probably appear in the future. At least now Eduard or Yahu knows what it should look like, hint hint.. Thanks again!
wellsprop
The Swiss Vampires and Venoms had upgraded avionics (hence some had the pointy nose) - they had a different instrument panel layout, much more similar to the US style of instrument panels, rather than the more traditional British panels. 1
