109 fan
The Messerschmitt Bf/Av 109 N Maultier has been completed. This is the Eduard 1/72 scale Avia S-199 done up in hypothetical German markings. The premise is that the Luftwaffe needed a dedicated Jabo (ground attack) aircraft to stem the Russian onslaught on the eastern front. The Czech firm Avia had been building 109 airframes and had an ample supply of Jumo bomber engines. The higher performance DB 605 engine was needed for home defense high altitude fighters, so this shotgun marriage was lashed up. The Eduard kit is excellent and I only added brake lines to the landing gear. Decals came from the excellent BarracudaCals set for late war 109s. I used every late war color and technique I could shove onto this model, from yellow ID areas to a separately painted cowl from a different contractor, overpainted fuselage band and hard edge mottles on the fin. The wing undersurface is natural metal. Overall this build was even more fun than a traditional 109, since I made up the scheme as I went along. Hope you enjoy it. 473E871C-21FC-4ADC-A985-CE07282527C4_1_201_a by Barry Numerick, on Flickr CC589DA9-7C18-45BE-9640-E93A44BD2E4D_1_201_a by Barry Numerick, on Flickr 23475C1F-5B91-40C0-ADFE-3500E0009F56_1_201_a by Barry Numerick, on Flickr 7F78A0C6-B6B6-4EDE-97EB-5FCC09B48383_1_201_a by Barry Numerick, on Flickr 48308507-6EF0-48D6-9E97-0E600A24EE10_1_201_a by Barry Numerick, on Flickr 2C1FF0F0-B829-45F6-A14C-FBD0546A0550_1_201_a by Barry Numerick, on Flickr 45

John_W
Very nice build. It always puzzled me that the 109 kept the side hinged hood and the poor visibility that went with it.
Natter
Very nice paint job. That mottle is superb for 72nd.

IanC
That does look good. Outstanding paintwork. Roll on the 'real' Eduard Bf 109G/Ks!
georgeusa
This is a very convincing "what if" scheme you have devised. It is also carried out to fruition in a well appointed finish and weathering. Thanks for being so imaginative and sharing your creation.

109 fan
Thank you all for the kind words! Watto, next up is a Tamiya 109 G-6 converted to a G-14. This will be one of the JG 52 birds surrendered at Neubiberg. Edited March 15, 2023 by 109 fan spelling

JG52 flew in to Neubiberg airbase en masse from Austria to escape the Soviets and surrender to the Americans, and thus were extensively photographed eg this famous image note the K-4 in the background. some more are here https://www.flickr.com/photos/28092068@N03/albums/72157631640586850 the name on the Flickr images jogged a memory... http://109lair.hobbyvista.com/models/bn1/bn1_k14/bn1_k14.htm which I found when looking up the K-14.... Very interesting build... Didn't realise you were on here ..until now! cheers T
109 fan
Hello T. That 109 K-14 goes back a few years! I plan to do another in 1/72, but with some refinements. My 109 G-14 will be one of the Neubiberg planes, "White 4", which is also on Haldeman's site. It is unusual in that it appears to have a large area of the wing undersurface painted black.

My I did some searching about, I found an image of DB605L engine, What struck me was the double up of how much the supercharger stuck out, and how much more you would need to bulge out the port cowl bulge, make for an interesting model! Cheers T
