Waow, Great progress Alistair !!

Laphroaig ?? Speyside ??

I'll go to look at a map but if my memory serves me Laphroaig is coming from Islay island did it ??

Congrats to your son, I paid a great tribute to Don Corleone !! How old is he ??

Your son, not Don Corleone :wicked::wicked:

his figure painting is really impressive !! You have good reasons to be a proud Dad !!

Stay safe and enjoy your modeling !!

sincerely.

Thanks CC,

The boy is now 29, so, no longer a boy I suppose.

Laphroaig is indeed an Islay Malt and a bit peaty for my taste.

I was more of a Bruichladdich drinker when they were still around that's when I don't have any Glenmorangie of course.

Wings together.

W2ma01k.jpg

Having decided which one I'm doing the nose has been fitted.

The two bits dry fitted.

I thinned out the rear part of the underside to get a better fit but this is still going to require some strong arm help to come together.

That's getting left until i get up after work tomorrow and I'll see what I've got to work with.

I cracked a seam with the clamp just behind the rear compartment but that can be sorted afterwards.

These joins on the other hand are going to require some more work.

As you will see from the pics I had to do a bit of fettling to the IP and around the cockpit edges to get a nice fit for the canopy, which has been dipped and is drying.

Thanks for looking,

Cheers,

Alistair

Aye, that all looks familiar!  Nice to see her coming together, though.

Thanks very much,

It feels a little like progress to get some glue sloshed about.

Alistair

Hi Alistair,

Coming along nicely. Not sure what you use to dip your canopies. I used 'looks like glass' and they came out brilliantly. However, once the Tamiya masking had been removed after the frames had been painted, the residue from the tape left them cloudy. Had to strip down and redip, then redip in my dwindling 'Kleer'

They retained the clarity and weren't affected by the masks, but a double effort when just Kleer would have been enough.

Hope yours come out spectacularly clear.

Thanks for the build so far.

Nice progress Alistair looking more like a Beau now.

Looking forward to the unclamping.

Chris

Thanks Chris.

The clamps are off and there's not too much requiring to be done.

Looking good Alistair. What do you use for dipping??

Thanks Q,

I used some Pledge Multi-Surface Polish that I picked up in Sainsburys when it was £3 a bottle.

I changed back to this after your experience with Gauzy which caused me to throw my bottle of it out.

Alistair,

Nice work - that's a lot of metalwork involved though!

Roger

Thanks Roger,

It required a little persuasion. :fight:

You know me brute force wins over delicacy every time.

If hitting it with a large hammer doesn't work I'm stuck.

Thanks Kevin,

I used just Kleer, or it's later incarnation on it.

I have used Gauzy in the past but saw what happened to DR. Quack's last attempt with that and gave it a miss.

Good to see not too much needs doing Alistair,  love the look of the Beaufighter, a lovely looking, but deadly machine.

Chris

Thanks Chris,

Beautiful lines but the carnage they caused in Norway and Denmark was spectacular.

You persuaded everything together really well. Not much to do with the seams. I had forgotten how much dihedral the Beau's tailplane had.

Thanks Richie,

It's going together better than I expected and as you say there's not much work required.

It's a fair dihedral.

A wee update,

I think all the seams are done but only paint will tell.

I got the canopy and gunners parts masked and fitted.

The canopy required a bit more fettling to get in and then some careful sanding to achieve a level join.

PPP was applied to blend everything in on the canopy and tail fillet.

I'll need to get on with the horizontal stabilisers and rudder along with the other little parts that are needed and then I'll be able to get some paint on and see where I stand.

Thanks for looking,

Alistair

Just caught up on this one and that’s a cracking job you’re doing.

I agree that the Aerocraft engines are lovely and have bought the set modded  for the Tamiya offering.

Thanks Trevor,

They are quite beautiful aren't they.

I'll be watching yours with interest to see what I can learn.

After a fair bit of sanding, filling and so on it was time for some paint to be used.

I've left the undercarriage doors unsliced for the moment to use them as masks for the main painting.

They were given a coat of primer and then Grey Green.

ONSHjub.jpg

The canopy and gunners compartment got a coat as well and as I had paint in the cup I checked the seams.

They all look pretty good but I won't be sure until daylight but the canopy still needs some blending.

Alistair,

Looking good - using interior green as a 'pre-primer' check is a great idea which I may well appropriate!
