A Fine Speyside Malt - Revell Bristol Beaufighter TF.X

Recommended Posts

This one was put in my head by @Dunny as he was building his magnificent Banff Strike Wing Mosquito.

I have plans for one of those myself but decided that a Dallachy Strike Wing Torbeau was in order.

I have recently been reading "A Separate Little War" about this little known part of Coastal Command.

Now in the interests of transparency this is the third time I've started the book as there are some serious geographical errors in the early pages which gave me pause for thought.

If the author couldn't get that right could I trust the rest of the information.

1. Cromarty is described as being on the Moray Firth when it's on the Cromarty Firth right up by the South Soutar.

2. There is a passage which tells of the disposal of inedible RAF Pork Pies off of the Forth Bridge and into the River Clyde.

3. Tain is described as being on the Moray Firth when it's on the Dornoch Firth.

Now, I will admit that as two of these were my part of Ross-Shire growing up, I may be a little biased.

I haven't decided which Torbeau I will attempt to build yet but will give the Aviaeology Dallachy Beaufighters in 1945 a good read over to decide.

On with the pics.

I've left out the sprues that are doubled.

Some nice aftermarket to go with it.

Ooooooooo lovely.  Definitely up for this one Alistair.   Got this in the stash.  I did not know about the Aerocraft engines and cowls,  they look great.

Great choice

Chris

Thanks Chris,

I'm looking forward to it.

I only picked up the kit a few weeks ago as it was on special offer but i did want to build one.

I believe the undercarriage are a bit tricky though.

The Aerocraft engines and cowls are truly a work of art.

Cheers,

Alistair

Thanks for the info on the engines, ordered a set myself,  very pleased.

I think this is a lovely kit with a few fiddly areas from what I have read, you will be fine with this one.

Chris

No worries Chris,

You won't be disappointed with the engines and cowlings.

Welcome aboard CC,

You are most welcome.

It was a new tool Revell kit in 2018, so I suppose it's a new one.

Nice start Alistair,  enjoy the earlier finish tomorrow.   I was up at 5 yesterday for work,  got a layin to 0644 hrs for the rest of the week, bliss😉.

Great start

Chris

Thanks Chris,

I've got 4 earlies then I get a day off.

12hr shifts though so no early finish.

There is a passage which tells of the disposal of inedible RAF Pork Pies off of the Forth Bridge and into the River Clyde.

I mean, the clue's in the name...

Reminds me of John Nichol's book on the Lancaster where he describes Paisley as being ten miles east of Glasgow (it's about six miles west). Maybe navigation isn't his strong point.

Anyway, love a Beaufighter (and a fine Speyside malt, for that matter), so I'll be watching with interest.

Whoever managed to reach the Clyde from Dalmeny should have been immediately picked up by the MCC.

Nice to see you here.

I felt the need to get going once I got home from work.

Primer, Interior Grey Green and some Nato Black were sprayed at some bits of plastic.

Admirable start to an admirable plane from an admirable but lesser known airfield. All the best for this build.

From the less than admirable Quack.

Many Thanks Dr. Chrichton. :D

It looks like a nice kit and I'm looking forward to it.
