Tamiya 1/48 Sturmgeschutz III Ausf.B (Sd.Kfz.142)

Recommended Posts

This is my first kit completion for more than half a year! I decided I wanted to do something fairly straight forward to get me back into the hobby and this 1/48 Tamiya Stug was just the ticket.

The only things I added as extras were the PE grills from Hauler, a bristle from a paintbrush, some cotton and a bit of stowage from a part used Tamiya Jerry Can set.

As usual, everything was painted with a variety of paint brushes, as I don't own an airbrush. I only use acrylic paints, mainly from Revell, Humbrol, RailMatch and Citadel. I use water to thin all my paints. The mud product was from Vallejo.

The Work In Progress thread, if you are interested, can be found HERE.

I really enjoyed the build and, as you might have guessed, I also enjoyed taking ALL the photos of it. Part of the enjoyment of this hobby for me is trying to get reasonable photos of my builds.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to comment and offer suggestions in my build thread.

Comments and suggestions are always welcome.

I am hopefully going to soon start another 1/48 Stug build, but this time the Ausf.G version, again from Tamiya.

Kind regards,

Stix

I don't know how you do it Stix. There's the rest of us mortals, spending money on airbrushes and spray booths, and yet you can achieve this with a couple of hairy sticks. Great work as always.

I agree totally with Johns comment above… we muck about with all this extra stuff and your paired down modelling is always top notch! Well done stix great job. Looking forwards to the next stugg, it’d be good to see them lined up /comparable once done.

All the best,

Paul.

Nice to see you back Stix.

A very realistically weathered StuG. As ever, the photos are a highlight, especially the low angle shots.

Hi Stix,

Wow!, another magnificent result with some sticks with hairs (some scholars call them brushes...lol)...

The result you get is enviable, with such simple means, I would have given a lot to achieve something like that in my other stage as a modeler, when AB was not a viable option, and brushes were the must.

I love it and the photos do it a lot of justice, just like you, for me some quality photos, they are part of the hobby too (now easier than ever, with smartphones), that way you can show the work properly , and are always on hand to enjoy the model or review the work for future projects.

Cheers and TC

Francis.👍

Nice work! Lovely mud work. I really like those Vallejo environmental effects products.

I'm glad to see you back. I was worried that maybe we lost you.  By which I mean I thought you left the hobby, not that something terrible happened.

Sorry, didn't mean to sound grim.

I'm new to the forum, but have referenced the site for many years.  This is a great subject and an excellent example of simplicity of execution.  A+ on the mud and grass effects.  Never easy to do without making them look like they're brushed on.  I have one of these in my stash and may have to get it out now.  Thanks for the inspiration.

That looks horrible!  I love it!! 😆

Looks like it’s seen proper action and been used and abused. Brilliant.
