Icarus
This is a couple of builds back in my production line, but hopefully I should get time to contribute this kit, originally from 1987 I think, to this GB? Looking forward to this classic! Icarus 6
Jinxman
Agree - definitely a Classic kit. Looking forward to seeing it progress.

JOCKNEY
Hi @Icarus Have you had a chance to make a start on this one yet ? I'm just conscious you've only got a few months to put the decals on Cheers Pat
Icarus
Thank you @JOCKNEY. Sadly, work getting in the way of the more important things in life at the moment, but when I am at a suitable juncture with the Sparviero I will make a start on this "somewhat understated" rainbow of an aircraft... Icarus
Right - having just finished the 1/48 SM.79 over in the "Salty Sea Dog" GB, I have now made a start on this, and as always, love painting the instrument and switch panels in these Hasegawa1/48 moulds. Funky colours for the ejector seats - but that's what the instructions call for. Maybe they had commerative colours in this aircraft? Next step is a dilute oil pin wash, to stop the colours looking quite so stark, before a unifying flat varnish... The seats, as well as some of the other details such as undercarriage, refuelling probe, etc, are white metal in this special boxing. Icarus
Starting to look like a Phantom now. I am hoping to use the long weekend here in the UK to get the canopies on, masked, and start laying down the initial colours. As this aircraft would have be pristine, I won't be employing my usual black basing. Thanks for looking, Icarus

Hope you get to use the long weekend to good effect.
Icarus
So, in the end, I did end up black basing this. I have now added the white, using good old Tamiya white primer, and am now in the mid of the complex task of masking this ready for the red bits. Thanks for looking, Icarus Edited May 7 by Icarus
JOCKNEY
Great stuff @Icarusthat cockpit looks the business Cheers Pat
Icarus
So, after removing all the masking, these are the results from the initial round of painting. There are a couple of touch-ups needed, and there clearly needs to be a little bit of white primer to cover up the minor overspray of blue paint (?how did that get under the masking?) on the port upper wing leading edge, but nothing too dramatic. Note the wings and nose cone aren't yet glued on. Thanks for looking, Icarus
Icarus
Main painting complete, Krystal Clear varnish on, and starting to add the decals. Considering they are 36 years old, they seem to be going down pretty well so far! Thanks for looking, Icarus

Icarus
Decals finally on (get your sunglasses out..), and a little bit of very minor pin wash weathering. I just wanted to dull down a bit, the "toy-like" look of the model without a bit of variation in colours. Now, sub-assemblies and cockpit PE await.. Nocoolname
Looks awesome! I have one of these in the stash but have always been a bit nervous about the decals and whether the whites have held up well enough. I always hoped that Xtradecal might upscale their 72nd set just in case. Really nice to see this built though. Thanks for sharing!
