Tom Zeller
I searched for this info here and several other places but haven’t been able to find a comprehensive list of aircraft flown by him during his career during WWII and post-war. This is what I have so far. Please add to it if you can by providing as much info as you have about the aircraft and when he flew it. Here’s what I have now: Wartime Aircraft “K2” Messerschmitt Bf 109G-4 W.Nr. ? 7/JG52 May 1943 Source: Hasegawa kit # 09303 Special Version “Yellow 1” Messerschmitt Bf 109G-6 W.Nr. 20499 9/JG52 October 1943 Source: AeroMaster Decal Set 48-706 “Ace of Aces — Erich Hartmann” “Yellow 1” Messerschmitt Bf 109G-6 W.Nr. 166221 9/JG52 August 1944 Source: AeroMaster Decal Set 48-706 “Ace of Aces — Erich Hartmann” “White 1” Messerschmitt Bf 109G-6 W.Nr. ? 7/JG52 October 1944 Source: AeroMaster Decal Set 48-706 “Ace of Aces — Erich Hartmann” “White 1” Messerschmitt Bf 109G-14 W.Nr. ? 4/JG52 October 1944 Source: Hasegawa kit # 07447 Limited Edition “Gruppenkommandeur” MesserschmittBf 109G-6 W.Nr. ? JG53 February 1945 Source: AeroMaster Decal Set 48-706 “Ace of Aces — Erich Hartmann” “Gruppenkommandeur” Messerschmitt Bf 109G-10 W.Nr. 610937 JG52 April 1945 Source: AeroMaster Decal Set 48-706 “Ace of Aces — Erich Hartmann” From here we see some contention. For example, Hasegawa kit # 09148 presents the 109 AeroMaster says is a Gruppenkommandeur’s G-6 as a G-14. Also there is disagreement over whether he flew an Me Bf 109K-4 or not. Peddinghaus sells the decals for “Black 4” with a red tulip on the nose instead of the usual black tulip pattern. Post-War Aircraft We know Hartmann flew the F-84 in training but I don’t have any more info about the aircraft than that. ”JA-111” Canadair Sabre MK. 6 “Black Tulip” JG71 “Richthofen” 1961 - 1962? Source: Hasegawa kit # 09532 Special Version and finally the F-104 he despised so much it ended his career. G.R.Morrison
Messerschmitt doesn't have a 'd' Hartmann flew a number of different Bf 109G-2s with the 7./JG 52, at least eight, between when he arrived at the front in October 1942 to March 1943 when they changed to the Bf 109G-4. The first one on your list was his WNr.14997, 'weiße 2", which, like many III/JG 52 aircraft at this time, retained its Stammkennzeichen (four-letter radio callsign, factory-applied). In this case, "KJ+GU" (these letters were also applied beneath the wings, thus K+J G+U). He made twelve claims while flying this one before going on a month's home leave. It was lost 28.May 1943 while being flown by Fw. Herbert Meißler, who was captured. Lifted onto its undercarriage after the forced-landing, it 'starred' in a Bolshevik propaganda film, smoke grenade in cockpit, Yaks flying past overhead. His WNr.20499, "gelbe 1" of the 9./JG 52 in October 1943 was the subject of several photographs, but was much less-used than "gelbe 2" at this time. He had become Staffelkapitän of the 9./JG 52 on 2.Sept. 1943 after the previous Kapitän, Berthold Korts had gone missing (Bf 109G-6 WNr.15899 "gelbe 1") 29.August 1943 following combat with Airacobras. WNr.166221 was photographed 24.August 1944, at the time of his 300. and 301. claims. I know of no documentation that has 610937 being flown by Hartmann. Revell's 1/32 Bf 109G-10 assigns "491446" to Hartmann's last machine, without any corroborating evidence (others in this series flew with the JG 4, KG(J) 6, the JG 11, the JG 77, and the 1ª Sq. and 3ª Sq./I° Gr.C. of the RSI). I would caution against relying on a decal sheet for reference. Some are well-researched, others, fantasy. GRM 4
FloydWerner
He also flew a G-6 Looks like Yellow 1 with a tiny 2 in it with some weird paint scheme, perhaps some RLM 79 even. This is shown in Wings of the Black Cross on the cover and inside one of the editions. There are also decals for it from Eagle Editions. There is video of this machine in the AKN files to draw your own conclusions. Don't forget Double Chevron an Erla G-10 which is his last mount. Also available in decal form from Eduard in thier Bf-109G-10 Erla boxing. He says he never flew the K-4. Any drawing is pure speculation.
