Curry and chips, G?

Sounds better.

But fish and chips sounds just right, just like steak and fries (other side of the pond, I know)

For expanding my culinary horizons.

10 bonus points each gents.

Further pre 'broken-fast' opportunities taken.

Still no postman arrivals these days so still using the older piece of BMF

P1010282.jpg

BMF burnished down tight and then a thin brushing of Vallejo Chrome mixed with Steel all over the metal

Damps down the artificiality of the Shiny Bright Chrome

P1010283.jpg

What I am doing is likely what I'll do for real, the upper wing panels have not been so treated except for the small panel between the aileron and the flaps which have had the treatment.

Looking good, Bill. That pic of the starboard side shows up the flash on the trailing edge of the wing, dunnit? . Or is it a bit of BMF on the underside?

Proper disappointed me

Still waiting for the Post to deliver my new sheets of Aluminium and chrome Bare Metal.

All my other sheet has been used now

Trying to get the various panels to sit differently on the fuselage.

Really need the Aluminium sheet NOW

I love this flash embellished look, tempted not to tone the panels down

(but then I look at pictures of real Lightnings and accept there's much work to do)

Looking good Bill. I've missed some of this build due to internet connection problems! Plug in hardware, probably from behind the rice curtain!

I hope your connections are better now Colin, is that a mostly African problem or do I have to worry?

I hope you didnt think this was shut down for a few weeks

Can you see what it is yet?

Hmm possibly not, but this is it being filled with latex moulding compound

Like this

If I can persuade the boom (yes its my new boom to sweep clean with?) not to detach from the bottom / top of the box it should be ready to cast 'off' tomorrow

Not an epic journey like the 3Ders are producing

Something intensively satisfying about successfully creating an RTV mould and casting bits.  And quite epic-a-journey enough given the potential pitfalls with mixing and bubbles n’all.

I'm glad you said that Steve.

Portion control.

Successful chemistry is all about portion control, control of substances they calls it.

When I bought my latest package of latex and hardener it was white with a tiny bottle of red catalyst and the ratio of mixing was said to be 3% by weight.

Do not mix it by colour

16823405974314956728093254777367.jpg

16823406330371608978665885032853.jpg

And mix it thoroughly, a weak mix allows all sorts of uncertainty to come aboard...

16823408915412647203392425902566.jpg

And gives you an inordinate workload sorting the fail rate...

16823414302985750765758028937631.jpg

Much more work to do than if I had elected to make two booms, doh!  :(

I remember the colour of mixed latex

I have not had much success with latex RTV lately, "outofpractiseitis" I called it and used nearly all of my previous blue catalyst one failing the mix last week so I called upon the older red cat latex.

I, it seems, could not get the right mix by eye and did not mix the mix adequately either

I do hope this is the extent of this week's epic fail rate

:(

ciao fellows and ladies.

😰

Incidentally a kilo of fresh RTV is winging it here as we speaks, Thursday or Friday this week for delivery...

My problem with all the older packs was down to using a little too much catalyst every fill and then not having sufficient to finish the pot with the catalyst remaining

D O H !

I invested in some cheapo precision scales such as these:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Portable-Weighing-Precision-Jewellery-Back-Lit/dp/B08DNPPFPQ/ref=sr_1_10?crid=13F1WWP3GJYFQ&keywords=chemists+scales&qid=1682345252&sprefix=chemists+scales%2Caps%2C112&sr=8-10

In order to cut down on the mixture fail rate.   Worked n'all - which cannot be said for all the super gizmo's I have been tempted into buying

Nice scales dude

I usually use the flat Lidl kitchen ones I lashed out a couple of quid for a few years ago but this time I was short of a suitably flat surface to lay them on so I took a poor chance

I had to make two plastic cups full to fill the mould casing which may have failed due to using old catalyst too, some of the remaining catalyst refused to liquify and work properly.

Better luck later in the week I hope with new product ;)

Yes I will use the scales  :)

Decision decided

Although there will undoubtedly be paint, possibly even occasional wax finishing, the Lightning is waiting for the postie..
Two flavours of Bare Metal Foil ordered for delivery later this week.

If we recall this statement I ordered the Bare Metal on the 9th, still not delivered and amid several comments about the seller's ability to remember to post stuff I have asked eBay to raise a complaint

Dammit!

So no fresh foil yet but Hannants have had a delivery of same, let's hope Lowestoft uses its usual efficient machine to roll into action

🤔  I followed the link and was wondering what sort of "herbs" it is talking about?  Especially as it had a special offer of small sealable plastic bags to go with it!         Really Mr Fritag, what are trying to lead us into?  :rofl2:

Honestly?

Might be better for the rest of us not to ask...

Anyway, I can only vouch for precision  scales; bought mine originally for archery (you need to be very precise on the harrow points weight), I've always used it for my RTV moulds with 100% success rate.  HTH
