The Valley Of The Vixens, where Avons love to tread.

............... so maybe .............. the scales are used to weight the white powder, for bagging in small packages ........... 🤔

All we need now is a link to a burner phone and some hooded dudes on scooters ..........

Well I have given up on this.

16830342959744928210689357288896.jpg

The resin didn't mix well and definitely did not get to the deepest part of the mould

It's b......ing horrid

See?

16830343513965743566931417251620.jpg

I reckon I'll have another go at using the thick kit things, try to disguise the awful awfulness of the things.

I am happier with the F6 though.

IMG-20230505-WA0000.jpg

This is beginning to convince me mucho

It does need serious planning for 'the next step' but on the whole it's becoming a bit W O W.

IMG-20230505-WA0002.jpg

As long as the surface I stick it down to has been properly prepared it's a delight to work with.

Mmmm

Working the tailplanes next

P1010041.jpg

Not sure this will ever look right...

P1010042.jpg

Let's find out

P1010043.jpg

Edges are the problem, 'specially at trailing edges.

I've tried to deal with them by wiping a wet brush loaded with Humbrol Clear along the edges where they join, 'spect I will find out after the decalling process which will come just after I add the after market fuselage intakes I bought optimistically

P1010046.jpg

All go in Lightning land, but a little reduced activity up in Vixen Valley.

But I have plans

I can't really see the trailing edges form there, but the leading ones look just right to me

Now where was I?

Oh yeah, a start made

It begins, the long journey

16835567386555905482397430697398.jpg

About five miles of thin black line to go

16835610149327327992716374894441.jpg

At last an identity, an owner.

23 sqn, I like the red and blue stripes, actually quite a stressful fit to the model but who wants easy?

(I mean who else wants easy, count me in)

Looking very nice and shiny. I like 23 squadron colours, that's what I plan my Gamecock will be wearing when done..... remember that one 😳

Most of the maintenance stencils are on now, courtesy of Modeldecal sheet 99, my eternal thanks to Dick Ward for Modeldecals.

Life savers all.

I'm having fun with the belly tank trestle marks but Percy Verence is bound to win the day, ably abetted by Microscale thin black stripes.

And the identity crisis is now a thing of the past  'C' is to be XS937 so I printed the serials and have these ready to add tomorrow

I have spent most of today's build session working on the Kestrel, Lightning and possibly some Sea Vixen tomorrow, we'll see how it goes huh?

I need a new test mule

Can I safely spray Tamiya TS-79 over Bare Metal Foil without losing its metal skin look?

Now to choose a test piece...

She's looking so good in that shot Bill, and as you say, Mr Ward did us all proud back in the day.

I had so many of his early sets, and quite a few more of the later ones. Most of my models were bedecked in his stuff back then.

R.I.P Dick.

It may seem simplistic to note it but Dick Ward made realistic modelmaking a tool in all our armouries, I bless his memory countless times within a build.

And curse if one of my builds was not actually covered by his extensive repertoire...

This is a tad different anyway.

My Bare Metal foil test bed

Shall we look at this?

Starboard wing in-board of the fold

The main panel is Matte Aluminium foil and the frontal piece is Shiny Chrome both sprayed carelessly with Tamiya TS-79 and know what?

I think that's okeydokey so I will be spraying the entire Lightning with the stuff tomorrow

Phew

There's a little patch of unvarnished foil under the leading edge, I like the varnished truth.

Works for me Bill.

Transfers on anything shiny need a good sealing in.

As me how I know (he said, rubbing transfers off his fingers…)

But I have plans

Instead of trimming both top and bottom at the trailing edge, you might wrap the top piece of foil around the trailing edge and trim it at a convenient but unobtrusive panel line on the underside of the tailplane. This has worked for me to eliminate similar problems in the past.

I might just paint them, the shape gives several bad edges

  • 2 weeks later...

I am getting fed up with Bare Metal Foil now, I might hide away and sulk but in the meantime I have made and fitted the standby compass into the screen framing

P1010111.jpg

Unlike many other RAF machines Lightning screen frames had very little other stuff tacked to 'em so I'm leaving it at this

So now I can add these after putting on, painted of course and with their tiny little decals on.

Oh, please don't do that Bill.  We'd be lost without our Perdu!  (See what I did there? Eh? Eh? ).

Even if you don't think it's going well, we mere mortals are learning lots. Thanks for sharing all this.

Cheers

Rob
