Is the Scottish Nationals on? This is news to me as I thought it wasn't happening this year.

I was of the understanding that the guy who organises it had retired or was not doing it.

This has made my day and I am sooo happy that Perth is happening.

🙂

Yes Gordon  it's on follow the link in the above post for more information.

Yes lots of members if the previous committee have retired,  but others have stepped up although always looking for more people if anyone can spare some time to help out with various jobs.

I think you might be mixed up with the Glasgow show Gordon I had heard it was this show that would be not going ahead this year.

Then again it could have been last years news it has all been a bit on and off for an awful lot of shows the last couple of years.

The Glasgow (Bellahouston) Show never took place last year but I see it is already listed on here as happening this October.

My reason for thinking Perth wasn't happening in 2023 was because one of the guys who helped organise it was in my work ahead of the 2022 show and with the way he was talking I got the impression that he was retiring and that no one was will to step up to the plate and take over.

That does actually seem to have taken place because having looked at the ScotNats site I see there is a whole raft of new names on the organising committee that the Scottish Nationals is happening and has seemingly had a new lease of life.

I attended the ScotNats last year and was disappointed to hear shortly afterwards that it may have been the last show. As I thought it wasn't going to happen, this year I am planning on being on holiday in England instead.

Still, it is great news that it is happening especially as Airfix are making a big commitment to it.

Is it definitely the case that there will be no means of electronic payment at this show? Surely that will have a huge impact for the Traders and Modellers alike.

That's what they say on their website, but they're only talking about entry to the show - cash only to get in. Once you're in it'll be up to traders what form of payment they will accept.

Cheers Dave - I understand it now. Having traders determine their own payment methods makes much better sense.

I've decided not to trade at Perth this year as I am too busy with the "day job" so I'm looking forward to going along as a punter on the Sunday instead. Believe it or not I never get more than a quick 10 minute run around the show when trading so it'll be nice to take my time and enjoy it for once.

I will miss you and your team Duncan as I will only be able to make the Saturday, but I hope you have a great time as an ordinary punter.

Cheers,

Alistair

Not a modelling story but vitally important to the future of the Scottish Nationals nonetheless is that the Dewars Live Active Centre in Perth is set to find out this week whether it will be closed or not.

As an ardent supporter of the Scottish Nationals for many years I hope it does but one to keep an eye on.

Aye that's normal. We (all) take care of our own finances at shows and the only interaction we have with the show organisers is when they come round on the Sunday asking for table fees. 👍

TBH and speaking purely for myself, it's cash that's the hassle to deal with! We wouldn't normally deal with it running an online business and our preference will always be electronic means as it avoids having to work out how and when to make a journey to a bank while its open.

The crucial phrase is "for now at least" @Gordon J

I live in Perth and although I'm not privy to any information which isn't in the public domain my feeling is that the closure of Dewars is a matter of "when" not "if". Dewars has been a white-ish elephant living on borrowed time since Horsecross opened in 2005 and took away much of the conference business. Outside the winter sports season not a lot happens at Dewars apart from the Scottish Nationals and the superb Perth model railway exhibition but the large building still has to be maintained and staffed at least on a skeleton basis. In the current financial climate it's hard to see that continuing. Far be it from me to tell the organisers of the Scottish Nationals their business but it might be wise to start thinking about alternative venues if they aren't already doing so.

Traders appear to be a little sparse this year at Perth. Does your list need updating or is that it guys? 🤞🏻🤞🏻

I've been waiting on an updated traders list too. The website says the traders listed was correct as of the 8th January but there's been no revision since.

I asked Scott's Models of Glasgow if he was going and he said he wasn't which is disappointing but hopefully there will be more traders to add the closer we get to the event.

I believe Duncan (BlackMikeModels) is working that weekend and may attend Sunday as a visitor.

We ourselves will not be there this year either which will be our first absence since we started.

(as I'm going to learn how to be a sail maker in Orkney instead - there's only one set of dates per year for this course)

Not sure if there should be another page on the club and sig but no sign of Washington Model Club on that list.  🤔

Also thought that wonderland Models might of been on the trader list.

Wonderland Models were at Perth last year - maybe there is a reason why they aren't going this year.
