A quick bit of research answered my question:  The F4-M and the FGR.2 are basically the same aircraft so I’m good to go with a 19 Sq Phantom if I use the Airfix FGR.2 kit.  👍🏻☺️

They are just different designations for the same thing; FG.1 and FGR.2 RAF, F-4K and M USAF / MDD. No differences in the thing.

I got a RAF Phantom Falklands warrior I'd like to get built, so please count me in.

Thanks Chris! 😁

@Enzo the Magnificent (unless I have got the wrong idea about this section), could this thread be moved to the GB 2025 proposals as there does seem to be a bit of enthusiasm for this to be a GB?

No, you haven't got the wrong idea about this section. And yes, it can be moved.

Thanks. All that is need I think is someone to lead the GB and then make up a list of the interested parties.

@Paul J  The F-4J(UK) was a very different aircraft to the FG.1 and FGR.2.   Would it still be eligible for your proposal?

I don't think it would  be a problem as the type did wear UK Markings. BUT that's where it stops. So no other variant of the Phantom that did not operate within UK service.

Hope this makes it clear.

Meanwhile I would like to invite any willing member to take the reins and make this GB  winner.

Being a GB host is not difficult and there is plenty of support.  Maybe you could find an experienced host to lead and you could be co-host.

Although never been a co-host I am happy to do this, if there is an experienced host.

Hmmm Just had a thought, could I do a split scheme ? Half the plane in one of its USN markings the other half in RAF ?

Personally I would say yes as long it was the same aircraft, ie before/after. But then we don't have a leader yet.

Well if I do it, it would be the specific aircraft that is in the link. I already have a full history and decals for the USN half. Only need to find 74 Squadron decals for the opposite side. I may do it or I may just do a standard FG.1 or FGR.2 as I have them in my stash. The question was more about curiosity than anything else.

This GB now has seventeen interested parties.  We now really need a primary host.  Anyone interested?

I have a J(UK) and an FGR2 with extra gubbins for both. Count me in 😊

There really needs to be a list drawn up for this GB! Has there been a primary host nominated yet?

I've been meaning to jump on the GB bandwagon for a while now, and I always seem to have a UK Phantom on the go (or planned). Count me in.

Just 5 more people to join this GB so that it can go into the bunfight. You know that you want to build a Royal Navy/ Royal Air Force Phantom

Against my better judgement and in complete denial of anything I may have said in the past, I'll offer to co-host this'un IF we can get a host. @JOCKNEY , are you up for hosting this while you beat another FROG kit into shape? I'd stretch to hosting, but work commitments make that difficult.

I will also, of course, enter the GB (Heaven help me). I may just have a Matchbox Brit Phantom or two in the stash (as well as Fujimi, Hasegawa, Airfix and 1/48th decals for a UK J. No Enzo,  I'm not building them all...)

Can whoever signs on to host please remind me of this commitment when the time arrives...

Good morning everyone

I'm currently hosting both the D-Day 80th Anniversary GB and the Made in Ukraine GB, and am trying to actually build some stuff ( yes shocking I know ! ) so although this looks like I'm whimping out, I really don't think I am in a position currently to help :sorry:

Cheers Pat

Ah. My apologies Pat, I haven't kept up with all that's going on in GB-land. Sorry to put you on the spot. :)

Anyone else wanna have a crack? @Paul J , would you host if @Jabba and I sign on as co-hosts? Hosting is firstly a job of selling the GB to the BM denizens, so that they join in and VOTE for the thing in the bunfight. Once the GB gets a place, you negotiate with @Enzo the Magnificent for a suitable time for it to run. Then once the GB starts it's simply a matter of staying in touch with GB entrants in their build threads, encouraging them and playing the genial host, as well as answering the inevitable "But what about this variant?" questions that arise (although you've pretty well nailed that door shut in your proposal!)

You will have my support (for whatever that's worth, I did a miserable job of hosting my own GB) and honestly it's not all that onerous, especially if 3 of us share the load.
