psdavidson
Here's my entry for the GB The Tamiya Tyrell P34 from 1977 I think Matchbox released a kit of this car way back when, which I always wanted to build but never got the chance It's time to make up for that, but with a different manufacturer's kit Box top All the plastic And some decals (from the land of upside-down) Sprues unbagged White and chromed Black sort of metallic grey This one shows the original release date. Others have a year stamp from this century Blue (again, the phone camera thjought it was upside down) Tyres and other bits With detail on the side wall And a sheet of destructions Ready on the grid for the start lights More soon(ish) /P
JOCKNEY
Wow that look a cracking kit, it looks like it was following the Matchbox idea of colouring the parts so you didn't need to paint it. I'll need to youtube the real thing now as it looks so different to conventional F1 cars, I'm really intrigued to see how it got on in action. Good luck Cheers Pat
CliffB
Brilliant. There'll be no mistaking this one
psdavidson
And we're off (but you'll need to make your own F1 noises) started with the engine ('cos that's what the instructions tell you to do) And proceeded into the first corner Slowing down a bit since I now need to start painting bits I chucked some primer at the assembled pieces I've built up a few more sub-assemblies which are not shown. They should get their first paint coat tomorrow More soon(ish) /P
psdavidson
I didn't take any pics of the first painting stages, but It's nothing exciting There are a lot of different metallics in use, but there's not much between them A little bench time today got the engine assembly moving forward Since then, I picked out the Ford lettering with silver paint and a toothpick. It's in need of a touch-up (fnaar) but not drastic I've also more work to do with the (50) shades of metallics and blacks More soon(ish) /P
Jinxman
Does the wire come with the kit, or is it from another source?
bianfuxia
This brings back memories! I never made the Tyrell but I built the Brabham and the Williams and a 70s Ferrari, plus stuffed up the later Lotus because I didn't know how to mix paints to get the yellow. My friend made several others and we made an F1 diorama with pit crews and sponsor hoardings - it was awesome. They're so pricey these days, these kits! Instill have the Williams and the Brabham plus the pit crew, but they're in pretty bad shape after all these years. psdavidson
Now that the butcher bird is off the bench, I've made a little progress on the Tyrell I got the 3 'shades' of black (matt, satin, and gloss) painted on the appropriate parts and stuck the transmission together Then did the same for the engine At this point I discovered that the wires are sticking out the wrong end Fortunately, a little TET and careful leverage with a scalpel managed to release the starter from the block It's now been turned around I need to wait until the weekend to get a bunch of stuff sprayed gunmental before I can go on More soon(ish) /P

psdavidson
More progress this weekend Most of the engine and transmission are now one piece I must have something a bit squint since it doesn't all line up correctly, but it's close enough. Then it was attached to the chassis I spent the rest of the bench time working on the front These are now about ready to be attached to the underside of the body, So I'll have to start figuring out how I'm going to paint it More soon(ish) /P
psdavidson
Not much to report. Masking has started on the body I am, however, a little pleased with how this turned out A few dots of paint from the pen within the raised lines and then dragged around with the toothpick to fill in the gaps More soon(ish) /P

psdavidson
Thanks Cliff Unfortunately, the smaller wheels didn't play along quite so well A little fettling and they should be presentable I've not had much bench time this week and most of it's been focussed on the Sackleton, but I did manage to get the body masked for blue Bits of Tamiya tape them painted with Copydex There's one section which I thought was meant to be blue so I used it for clamping while I painted the Aluminium bits Turns out it should be Alu as well Ah well, at least it will be simple to mask and spray once the blue is on I should get the body sprayed tomorrow More soon(ish) /P
psdavidson
Got the blue paint on Not bad It's Halfords Enamel Engine Blue which was the closest match I could find (by Mk1 eyeball) to Tamiya X4 Once it's cured, I'll need to mask off the front for some black paint More soon(ish) /P

I've watched them in action at times over the years but this is my first attempt at building one. It's a learning experience,to be sure I removed all of the masking after the blue was sprayed Need to do summat about that grey patch that's meant to be aluminium There's some slight overspray but nowhere you'd notice More soon(ish) /P
psdavidson
I sprayed some aluminium in that odd patch then continued with assembly Front suspeension and some odd bits on the body Then a quick test-fit before sticking the bottom and top together Dry fit of the fairing so I could stick both halves together in the correct shape Masked and painted the seat blue And here's how it looks after this weekend's work Coming together nicely. The front seam on the fairing will need some work I don't think there's an awful lot left to assemble before the stickers go on More soon(ish) /P
Orso
I like this and will follow with interest. You are building the Depailler car? I have built two of these as the cars of Ronnie and Patrick from the Belgium GP and have two more in the stash with conversion sets.

Thanks Björn Yes, It's the number 4 car which I think is Depailler It was chosen because it required less surgery on the body than number
psdavidson
Well, this kinda stalled a bit. Work got busy and the mojo drained foo Still, I'm trying to pick it up again I had to do a repair on the cowling as it split in half during painting. this necessitated some paint touch-ups elswhere to match up the white finish properly IP and seatbelt decals have now been attached as have the windows The harness is a bit lower than it should be, but close enough that I'm not going to do anything about it now It's now mostly a case of final assembly and stickers to reach the checkered flag More soon(ish) /P
psdavidson
All the bits have now been stuck on except for the rear wing and the wheels I hope it ends up all straight but I have my doubts Decals in progress .... And finished The logo that crosses the joinin the faring was a bit awkward. I split it with a scalpel (after first breaking out a new blade) I'll let them settle then get some decal fix on them. A quick clear coat to finish then hopefully I can get the wheels on without destroying the suspension More soon(ish) /P

psdavidson
Thanks everyone As expected, I had a few issues attaching the wheels. The engine separated from the gearbox and the rear wing support commited suicide I didn't take pictures of the carnage Fortunately, the carpet monster was asleep so all of the parts that fell on the floor were recovered I stuck it all together again and here we are I am now calling this complete before I do any more damage I'll post some pics in the gallery soon(ish) /P
