franky boy
Nice work Brian This is also in my stash so will follow with interest. Can I just ask as I haven’t looked at the kit for a while. What’s the surface texture of the plastic like. I’m curious as I’ve recently finished an Airfix 1:48 Meteor and the plastic had a real orange peel finish which meant that everything needed a polish before painting to get a decent HSS finish. Have you decided on markings yet? Thanks James
Andrew Patmore
A Javelin in 1/48 is a lot of plastic. Like the extra thin cement holder.
theplasticsurgeon
Likewise, following as I've got this kit in my stash. If you do build as XH903, my Javelin at Jet Age - it NEVER carried a refueling probe. I don't know why Airfix lead modellers to believe that it ever did. 7

I always sand my model be for primer or painting . 17BC12BD-FF1B-4779-9B44-592E87AA780E by b007scott, on Flickr Brian Edited February 8 by F-104 nut

It is interesting how the canopy has fogged so badly! I got to climb up the ladder on the example at Newark and it had the same issue, odd Ash

Lord Riot
Great cockpit, how did you do the individual dials to make them look darker? Nice set of decals too. Tempted to buy another of these and try to convert to the FAW.8 like I did in 1/72.

F-104 nut
Followed Antii K's idea on Britmodeler on how he did the burner cans . I went used a razor saw to cut the kick parts in half .I need to clean the burner cans up next . After i installed the burner can tubes on the lower airframe i had to sand the very end of them so the burner cans would fit flush . Once burner cans and FOD covers are attached I'll slide them on last . Forgot to mention the assembley of the burner cans it not the greatest fit ! By doing what I did the fit it much better . 81C21A6C-EB98-439B-8B96-9FCEAFE742CD by b007scott, on Flickr BBEC7F0A-777A-4440-8FAE-86DD30F72DE5 by b007scott, on Flickr 610C9115-BC09-4BFC-B52C-CB86B0E2B000 by b007scott, on Flickr 41EF7BF3-5143-4938-A321-2976D95A312C by b007scott, on Flickr 1B151B01-EFA8-4DF3-A824-907481432953 by b007scott, on Flickr Brian Edited February 14 by F-104 nut
F-104 nut
Before installing the wheel wells i sprayed withem with Tamiya LP-11 areas need to be covered that the airbrush cant reach after installed . They will get sprayed again on the model when the bottom get sprayed with metal coat . When it came time to glue the intake lip on there was a small gap between the intke lip and fuseloge . I filled it with brsuhing mr color surfacer 1500 primder on then sanding oce dry . Wing installation was noit bad left wing went on great had some issues with the right wing which was easy to fix . Amazed at the size of the surface this plane was massive . Still plenty more ahead stay tuned . 7E68AE16-5316-4A00-95C1-A0CDE8480AE6 by b007scott, on Flickr AA641481-A530-4263-B04A-4D7448BAEB86 by b007scott, on Flickr 449FCF39-BE54-4CF3-9C71-2810E3D0EDFD by b007scott, on Flickr 728D4F62-719F-4320-90F0-6031EB33861E by b007scott, on Flickr 01C2CAFF-3EC8-48A0-AD72-187A6862AB63 by b007scott, on Flickr B58E384F-F104-4880-AC28-AA53B53D848F by b007scott, on Flickr 0E2CB90F-9A79-4886-81E8-02FCED244036 by b007scott, on Flickr 9A39DBB0-B7FA-4E8F-8884-D8F46548E67B by b007scott, on Flickr 3F03E25C-D7DA-4291-8AFF-093A41FBD869 by b007scott, on Flickr DAA24EA1-5E9A-44D7-BCE5-472C41AC2ADC by b007scott, on Flickr Brian Edited February 20 by F-104 nut
Biggles87
Apart from the ‘burner cans ( must try to remember the fix for when I get around to mine ) it looks like a pretty decent fit all round. John
F-104 nut
Well after cleaning up the HPModel Javelin seat and building a mount for it to fit on the square on the cockpit tub I've come to a conclusion the seats are way too small . The seats was barely above the cockpit not looking right and also looking way to small . So after lots of dry fitting i decided to cut the cushion separate from the frame , sanded the sides of the frame off and with some mods to the backside the cushion it fits in the kit seat frame. 3C154221-9177-4E88-AE5B-B880288DB864 by b007scott, on Flickr 6C102B31-27B0-46B3-86EF-C74E61CD9508 by b007scott, on Flickr DC02F2D3-DEE6-4163-ABCB-019C914ECF87 by b007scott, on Flickr 92E882BD-4006-4F0B-A29A-7D110E32844D by b007scott, on Flickr BD25E53E-08D1-479E-B5DF-C63F7BA824DB by b007scott, on Flickr 7AD5BE7D-E48D-4571-931E-6B076595EC54 by b007scott, on Flickr 1051A0A9-0DD7-4AB9-A6EE-33A3E2B99A9E by b007scott, on Flickr Got the ailerons , underbelly tanks on .
