Eduard A-8 Butcher Bird FINISHED!

Hello chaps

A quick update on this build too.

While i I had the airbrush out for my A-6 build I thought I’d give uc parts a coat of RLM02 for this one at the same time. This was followed up with a black/brown wash. As you can probably see from the photo I chopped off the gun barrels before I break them off through clumsyness and drilled out the remaining parts to accept some Albion Alloys tubing.

Next job is a flat coat for the cockpit and uc parts and then everything can go together.

Thanks for looking.

James

I've done the same with my u/c parts but you take better photos than me.

When I glued my upper and lower wings together they did not go as well as my other builds.  Not sure why but I had to do a lot of clamping, but it's done now.

Thanks Bob although I’m no photographer, it’s just point and press on my phone.

Hi everyone

I decided to put my A-6 build down for a few days and deck to get this one pushed along a bit towards primer.

Here are the fuselage halves together. That IP panel was just as much of a pain to get to sit right as it was in the other build. Sorry not a great view into the cockpit.

And from the other side.

As anyone who’s built this kit will know things move along pretty quickly once you start glueing.

To be honest I did rush putting it together a bit and got a bit careless which left a gaps around the wing roots and gun covers. Nothing a bit of perfect plastic putty won’t sort out though.

I’ve also put the windscreen on since these photos. Hopefully onto priming in a few days.

Thanks for dropping by.

I've had the same problem with a couple of my FW's, some go together perfectly, others need some filler.

I haven't had a problem fitting the i/p on my A series builds, but Eduards D-9 kits, putting the i/p into them, now that's fun, not.

Hi Bob. It’s odd sometimes how you can build the same kit and make different problems for yourself. One thing I’ve noticed is that the weekend kit has ever so slightly more flash than the Profi pack kit. Funny as they come from the same set of moulds.

Perhaps it's the kits that were moulded on Monday mornings or Friday afternoons that have these built in problems.

James,

Just catching up with this. A lovely build underway again. Jostling the IP to get it in the right position relative to the coaming seems to be a feature of this kit and I do not mean feature in a positive sense. The 3D printed stuff is very nice.

Thanks Ray. Agreed the IP is a pain In this kit but it’s still a great build.

And moving onto the next update. On the underside of the wings just inboard of the ejection shoots this version of the 190 has a small plate fitted on each wing over one of the panels. In the Profi pack version this supplied as PE but in the weekend kit it’s a decal. So I made these out of plastic card as the decal will look rubbish.

This was followed by a of coat primer, Mr Surfacer 1200.

The model has since had pre shade of black. I’m waiting for a set of masks to turn up in the post for the national insignia and then I can get on with the paint work and those very fine squiggles on the tail.

Thanks for looking

Lovely build. Looks great. I noticed you achieved a great joint at the aft lower wing/fuselage join.

Thanks James. Good old Mr surfacer thinned 50/50 with SLT usually goes down very well. Famous last words there!

That is looking very nice James, it's going to be impressive once the camo is on.

Thanks Bob. Yes looking forward to getting some paint on. Although those small squiggles on the tail may yet prove interesting.

Thanks

🇺🇦

Thanks very much Craig.

And onto the last few days work. I bought a set of Montex masks for the national insignia as I don’t much fancy the decals. I sprayed some white onto the upper wings and when dry applied the masks. The other crosses are black so I’ll do these last. I then laid down the colours for the standard factory applied camo. As this aircraft had a lot of field applied camo oversprayed (pic below) I’m going to do the few decals and stencilling next and then spray the field applied colours as a lot of the markings have overspray on them and the stencils I’m sure will be completely painted out.

The colours look a bit washed out in the pics, must have been my less than good office lights.

The grey and green are a bit patchy tbh but with all the over spraying to come later it’ll be fine. Honestly 😀

So the next job is to spray on the black crosses and the area around the exhaust then I’ll be onto decals.

Thanks for looking.

She's looking really nice, James. That field camo is going to make this an interesting looking build when it's done :)

Hi everyone

After the recent rallying cry from our host that we've only got 3 weeks left todays wet weather has given me a chance to have a crack at the field applied camo pattern.

Once I'd broken it down in my mind it wasn't as bad as I thought it might be. Paints used were Mr Color RLM82 for the green and Hataka orange line for the RLM81 brown violet as the Mr Color version of this colour looks way out to my eye. More of a muddy green. Although I'm quite familiar with it I haven't used Hataka paints for any kind of mottling before but they performed easily on a par with the Mr Color.

The national markings were masked and sprayed and I also applied the stencil decals as some of these were to be part sprayed over the field camo. I also masked over the areas for the individual a/c markings with Tamiya tape. As I don't have a photo of this a/c I followed the Eduard instructions as closely as possible for the mottling. Pics below.

And the gear doors.

That's all for now. I'll get the last few decals on tonight and then crack on with some weathering.

Thanks for dropping by.
