THE 1/48 MACCHI 39 PROJECT:

Hi All,

We did not make any 1/48 full kit for a while so here is an opportunity for quater scale modelers. This time we have choosen our Macchi 39 design.

If we reach our usual goal of 60-70 preordered copies of Macchi 39 we start the work immediately. Please note pre-registration is valid for only 10 days!

Our plan is to release the kit for Mosonshow in April 2023

Regarding the price, we will offer the kit for 70 EUR, with free shipping everywhere in the planet for those who sign up in advance. As the schedule is quite tight, we will close the sign up in 10 days and free shipping is not included in the price anymore.

We are not asking payment in advance, but will send a notification when the kit is ready to ship.

We kindly ask you to sign up only, if you really buy the kit when released.

At the end of this post, there is a link to a form where you can sign up for a brand new 1/48 Macchi 39 resin kit by SBS.

The form includes 3 easy questions:

- name

- email address

- ordered number of kits

Thanks for reading guys, and hope you will be interested in this model, and we can have it in hand at Mosonshow!

Oh. no.

Its a tailsitter.

Why oh why did he not make the floats in two pieces?

I preordered the kit with a comment about it, but alas.

looks like there is a perfect spot to drill some holes to add weight right where the pouring stub sits. You're going to be sanding that area anyway.

Make a beaching trolley?

Interesting that the struts are brass - bearing in mind the experience of my Crusader build!

It looks like a great model.

I hope they do more Schneider planes.

Thanks guys,I might just try to drill it out. If it fails, I can try to remake the floats... (and probably fail)

I do not like beaching trollys that much.. tehy destroy the lines of the plane when it is in the display cupboard :)

I'm confused, how do you consider it a "tail sitter?"  To me it looks like it sits the way any twin-float would without a beaching trolley.

Indeed it is!

It should be sitting on the forward part of the floats. When the aircraft is floating at equilibrium, the lontitudinal center of gravity (LCG) is aligned with the logitudinal center of bouyancy (LCB). The floats' LCB, which is strictly defined by the float's shape, is forward of step. This photo very nicely shows the LCG w.r.t. the step. The center wheel of the trolley is aligned with the float step and the trolly is tilted forward. As demonstrated by the model's attitude, its LCG is clearly aft of the step. If the aircraft were afloat with that LCG, it would trim aft (by the stern), possible severely. As usual, weight could be added to the fuselage nose to balance the model.

FWIW, the Hawk 1/48 Curtiss R3C-2 has a similar LCG issue, which I only discovered after I attached the float to the airframe. Fortunately, I was able to drill a hole in the noses of the floats so I could stuff enough solder to enable it to sit properly..
